I Want Pink Hair
When I was younger I colored my whole head of hair bright pink and loved it. It is now long gone and my current job probably wouldn't appreciate if I had bright pink hair again, but I want pink hair! I've been thinking about it but haven't done it yet, in the mean time I have done research to figure out exactly how to do it and what products to use and decided to share that info with others.

To Bleach or Not to Bleach?
For people with dark hair, using pink dye straight up will only produce a pink tint and for people with blonde or light hair it will be brighter but it still won't be florescent pink. So how do you fix this so that your hair can be REALLY pink? You bleach your hair first. Bleaching your hair strips all of the color from it and will make the pink dye last longer and be brighter. How to Bleach Your Hair
Because of bleach's harsh checmical nature, bleaching your hair the right way can be complicated. If you don't do it right you could turn your hair orange on top of other things. I would suggest going to a professional to have this done, but if you want to do it yourself this site has alot of information on how to go about it : Begginer's Guide to Bleaching Your Hair
How To Color The Right Way
After doing some of my own reasearch these are the steps I've come up with for dyeing your hair pink:
- Prepare Your Work Area - Pink dye will stain almost anything it gets on, especially porous materials like wood, carpet, and clothes. Make sure you cover items in the area you will be coloring your hair. Make sure you wear an old t-shirt that you don't mind getting some pink on.
- Prepare Yourself - Put vasaline around your hairline, ears, and neck to prevent dye from soaking into your skin and staining it. You should wear gloves while dying to protect your hands from turning pink. You want your hair to be freshly washed but not conditioned. Conditioner coats your hair and can prevent dye from soaking in.
- Get to Dying - Use a tint brush to cover the areas around your hairline and either side of your part. If you want to be very careful you can section your hari and apply the color section by section. If not, just use your gloved fingers to slap on the color all over. Make sure you comb your hair so that the color can get evenly distributed.
- Wait - With most pink dyes it's ok to leave the color in for a couple of hours. Just wrap your hair in plastic to keep the heat and the moisture in.
- Rinse - After your done waiting, rinse your hari in warm water untill the water runs clear. Use conditioner to lock in the color.
- After Color Care - Pink will fade quicker than other natural colors. The more you wash it the more it fades; I'm not saying to not wash your hair, but avoiding excess washing when you can. Leaving the color in longer will make the color last longer. You can use color care shampoo and conditioner, I know this helps when you dye your hair naturaly but I'm not sure how it works with pink.

So What if I can't have Pink Hair at Work?
Most bosses don't like the idea of their employees having bright pink hair and it probably isn't a good idea to test them becuase they will either make you get rid of it or fire you. Well the option for people who have bosses like this is wigs. You can either get a natural colored wig to cover your pink hair or you could get a pink wig to wear when you are not at work. Most people would probably just choose to dye their hair pink and wear the natural wig. This also applies to students in high school as most schools ban crazy colors. Pink Wigs on Ebay

Pink Hair For Hope
We all know that pink is a symbol for breat cancer, well now there is a new campaign going on called Pink Hair for Hope. When you visit participating salons you can have them put in a pink hair extension for a donation of $10 or more to the Breast Cancer Foundation. At the Breast Cancer Foundation's site below you can find more info about the campaign and find a salon near you that supports Pink Hair for Hope. Not only is this a great way to donate to charity but it also gives you an excuse for having some pink hair!Pink Hair for Hope
