Become a Virtual Assistant
What is a Virtual Assistant?
Every business can use some help from time to time. Virtual assistants have created a niche in the area of business assistance. This article describes the attributes of a virtual assistant.
First, let's talk about what a virtual assistant is not. A virtual assistant is not a secretary. They are not beck-and-call people. And, they can do more than take dictation. A virtual assistant will not buy birthday presents for your kids or your spouse, unless that is a part of the skill set that they offer.
Virtual assistants are executive assistants who have parlayed their expertise into a business. They cater to the small business client, but will work with larger companies. At first, the virtual assistant performed duties consistent with executive assistants, but then they expanded repertoire with non-traditional skills.
A virtual assistant doesn't have to be in the same office as his or her client. Work is delegated and delivered via email, fax, telephone, and snail mail. A virtual assistant is not limited in the methods used to complete the work.
As a business professional, a virtual assistant works to form a relationship between their business and that of the client. Meshing compatible work styles is important to how well a virtual assistant can perform for the client. Both parties develop an understanding.
A virtual assistant is a business owner. Their goals are the same as yours. They want to grow their business and make money by providing a viable product. In the case of a virtual assistant, the "product" is actually a service to other business owners.
The virtual assistant handles administrative work and other details as dictated by the client. Virtual assistants are hired by the hour and can earmark a certain number of hours per month to a client for their work. They have several clients but make their reputation on treating each one like the only one.
Virtual assistants range from greenhorns just getting into the profession to corporate types who want to work for themselves. Along with each virtual assistant goes a wealth of experience in various fields that can benefit any business looking for help.
Before hiring a virtual assistant, check to see who is available out there that meets your particular criteria. To find this type of professional support, look online for virtual assisting directories. They list the credentials and expertise of virtual assistants. You can find the person who will work best for you and your business.

Data Entry as a Home Business
WAHM Business Idea
Work at home moms and some dads work as data entry clerks. This type of work offers a variety of positions and types of data entry work. Companies are always outsourcing data entry work to cut costs of having an onsite employee. It is easier and cheaper for them to rely on a work at home mom to get the job completed rather than hire someone that will only work at this particular position once or twice a month.
One type of data entry position is entering data into a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel. This might be addresses, company invoices or even links to websites. Other positions include checking statuses of homeowners to see if they still own their homes and simply typing a yeas or no in box. This however, involves a little research from a website that the client usually gives you access to before you start.
Many people are updating their invoices and need data entry clerks to go through every invoice and record the information into QuickBooks or an Excel spreadsheet. This type of data entry requires accuracy and attention to detail. Hard copies are usually sent to you by mail or they can be scanned and emailed. Some clients will need to fax this information so you should have access to a fax machine for any data entry work. There are usually time constraints on this type of data entry, but you always have enough time to complete the order.
Another type of data entry that is very popular is compiling spreadsheets with business names and contact information. Some companies need lists of schools, zip codes and even physician names and locations. This type of data entry does require some research, but most of the information you need can be found using the links that the clients give you. The pay rate for this type of data entry varies from ten cents a line to one dollar a line. If you are quick, you can make some good money doing this type of work.
If you have the right equipment, you can also do data entry online. Many companies are looking for contractors to input data into their online systems, but you do have to have a high-speed Internet connection and a reliable computer. Some of the positions available are enter poll results, sign up information and answers to questionnaires that the company sends out. These types of positions are easy to do, but you do need to have accurate data entry skills.
Although data entry sounds easy to do, a person must have patients for this type of work. Some data entry work can be tedious and time consuming. You will need to have few distractions around you. It is important that all entries are accurate or it could affect the outcome of the work. If you are doing the entries in a client's online system, some clients can monitor how much work you are doing every hour. You have to be prepared to work the hours that they require.
If you think that your typing skills and accuracy skills are above average, you would do well working in data entry. Before you accept any data entry assignment, you should do a test first to see how fast or slow the work with go. This will help you determine how much you can make an hour and what you need to charge. Some data entry jobs can pay very well and makes it worth you time. If you are working on a per entry basis, you have to determine how that figures out hourly when you do the actual work.
Take your time before stating your cost. If a client has already posted a total payment for the job, you need to see if it pays what you should get hourly. Never under estimate your abilities, take a lower pay for something that could be harder to do, and may a decent hourly wage. If you settle for a low pay and you see that you are not making enough money, it hinders your ability to stay on track and get the job done.

Working At Home With Kids
Being a Wahm is hard work.
by Mark Brandenburg MA, CPCC
It was a Saturday afternoon, and I had work on my mind.
It didn't matter that it was a beautiful day or that I was currently "in charge" of my two kids-I had work to do. And as a male, I was asserting my right to employ tunnel vision and to forget everything around me so that I might finish this project.
"Dad, will you come and play with us?" my daughter asked. "Not now, honey," I told her. A short while later, my son tried. "Dad, are you done yet?" "No, please let me finish this," I said in a tone much sharper than I'd intended.
After a few more minutes of focused work, I heard my kids fighting in the other room. While I usually let them work out their own fights, this one sounded like it needed intervention. I broke things up and before long, I found myself in a wrestling match with both of them.
Their plan had worked! While they may not have consciously planned it, I was now firmly planted in their world. My tunnel vision had been shifted to a different focus: who would win the wrestling match. And I must admit that this was a whole lot more fun than the project I was working on.
Although I had been frustrated with my kids, it wasn't their fault. I had failed to make proper boundaries with them. I hadn't made it clear to them that I'd need a certain amount of time and space while I worked. And I hadn't told them what I expected of them.
As fathers and mothers increase their workload in this country, work and home obligations often come into conflict. We must often make the agonizing choice between spending "quality time" with our kids versus getting caught up with work.
An excerpt from Robert Bly's book, "The Sibling Society" (1996) tells of the problems that fathers have in finding the time to have more "complete"lives:"The patriarchal system's destruction of fatherhood continues in the United States today: In 1935, the average workingman had forty hours a week free, including Saturday and Sunday. By 1990, it was down to seventeen hours.
The twenty-three lost hours of free time a week since 1935 are the very hours in which the father could be a nurturing father, and find some center in himself, and the very hours in which the mother could feel she actually has a husband."
I wish that I could have more free time with my kids. I also wish that I could spend more time with my wife.
And I know in the future I'll be faced with the choice between work time or family time on many occasions. There's a lot of guilt on either side of this decision. But ten years from now nobody will care much about the project that I'm working on.
My kids, on the other hand, will grow up and think back on their childhood for the rest of their lives. The memories that we create together are eternal. Someday, these memories will pave the way for them to have memorable experiences with their own children.
The truth is that I still haven't finished that project that I was so focused on, and I can't say that it's too upsetting to me.
And I know my kids are just fine with it.

Walking The WAHM tightrope
Being a WAHM is a tough job.
Sometimes, being a work at home mom can feel like walking on a tight-rope!
Balancing your work-time and you family-time can almost feel overwhelming, but it can be done. As a WAHM you are ahead of the game. The following are
some tips to help keep you balanced - and sane!
You have the ability to set your own hours, so take advantage of that right now. If you can handle some tasks at "odd hours", you will have more family
time during the day.
Are you a morning person? If so, try to get up an hour before your family to take advantage of some "quiet time" to focus on your business; night owls can take care of emails and other administrative tasks after they have put their children to bed.
If you pick your children up from school, use the time you spend waiting for them to get out of class to return customer phone calls. A wireless headset
for your cell phone will allow you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road if you make calls while driving.
During the week, when schedules are busiest, plan speedy dinners. Let your kids help out in the kitchen while you cook - you'll be spending time together and teaching them skills they will need. There are plenty of cookbooks out there dedicated to "kid friendly recipes" if you need some inspiration on what to make.
There is also a great service called Dine Without Whine -They have a weekly menu plan and grocery list delivered to your E-mail Box, how much easier can meal time get then that? Go Check them out Now.
Get The Family Involved In Your Business.
Blend family time and work time by getting your children involved in your business. Smaller children can affix the stamps or mailing labels; older children can help hang flyers; and teenagers can take on some administrative tasks such as data entry.
Set aside some time each day to spend with your children with no distractions. You don't have to go anywhere special; the time can be spent reading a book or playing a game. The point is just to let your children know that they come first, and the business comes second. Remember - you became a work at home mom so you could spend time with your family. Don't forget to take some time out to enjoy them!
If you need an occasional sitter don't fret over it, try setting up a "child care group" with your friends and neighbors. Each woman can designate a time frame on a certain day of the week or month to be "the sitter".
Any of the Moms in your "child care group" who need a sitter that day can drop their kids of at the "designated sitter's" house. The children will get to play and interact with one another and each Mom can get free childcare on an "as needed basis".

Avoid Dieting Make Positive Changes Instead
New Years Resolution?
Eating for some is an addiction. Unfortunately, you can't exactly give up eating all together as a smoker can give up cigarettes. I'm not applying by any means that giving up cigarettes is easy but how much more difficult would it be if you were forced to have three a day? At that point you may as well enjoy them every time the urge hits right? The same holds true for food. You must eat in order to survive. You cannot live without eating. This means that if food is a problem in your life, you must find a healthier way of viewing food.
Isn't this where diets generally come in handy? The short answer is no. This is where diets often fail. Diets do very little to change how we view food. In fact, most diets only serve to tell us which foods are good, which foods are bad, and which foods (typically most of the foods we enjoy most) are strictly taboo. Diets begin by forcing people to feel deprived or punished. And no one likes to feel either of these things.
Even worse however, is that we punish ourselves further when we slip along the straight and very narrow pathways upon which our diets place us. This means that we are going to wallow in guilt over every little misstep we make until we give up all together and decide to over indulge once again and ignore the guilt all together.
In order to have real success you must make a lifestyle change. This is the only way that you will be able to shed those unwanted pounds without experiencing the horrible guilt that so many dieters go through each and every step of the way with their diets. Set goals for yourself. Keep them aggressive but realistic for fitness, dropping pounds, and eating new healthy foods. Even if your goal is as simple as eating 5 vegetable servings a day it is a great place to start.
Change your way of eating. Then change your way of seeing food and you will experience amazing changes in your attitudes toward your health, your body, and even your fitness level. As the first pounds begin to drop you will begin to experience more energy and less pain when exercising. This should help keep you motivated to do even more as time goes by.
Do not think that long term weight loss goals will be as easy to achieve as the first five or ten pounds. Consistency is vitally important when making these lifestyle changes. Take each day as it comes and begin again the very next day. This means that even if you fall completely "off the wagon" today, you can start over tomorrow. The trick is in staying the course more days than not and learning moderation and balance when it comes to straying from the straight and narrow.
There are many ways to fail when it comes to dieting and I know people who have failed in almost every one I can possibly imagine. There is no way to fail, however, when you are making positive changes in your life that are getting positive results. It may take weeks, months, or even years to reach your goal. As long as you are making steady and continuous efforts and progress, you are doing many great things for your health and well being.

Moms: Caregiver and Provider
It is not easy being everything to everybody
Moms: Caregiver and ProviderMoms wear many hats. As the keeper of the hearth and home, each day is filled with a variety of activities that involve taking care of others. Basically, everything that a mom does can be divided into two categories: caregiver and provider.
Mothers are natural nurturers. They care for and protect what is theirs with their very lives. This is true in the animal kingdom and the human world.
Provider
Moms in the U.S. spend over 3.7 trillion dollars a year on consumer goods according to BSM Media. This includes shopping for kids, husbands or significant others, older parents, adult children and themselves.
Why is this?
Moms have the savvy and the presence of mind to take the time and think through a purchasing decision before actually making the purchase. Buying power like that comes with great responsibility and moms are just the ones to handle it.
According to Whirlpool (1995), 88 percent of women are responsible for caring for their families. These moms are married and single. For single parents, the responsibility increases because they are the sole provider. Every decision from health insurance to home loans to buying groceries falls on them.
As a result of being the provider (sole or in partnership), moms are taking the bull by the horns, so to speak. They are actively seeking out information on various topics so they can make an intelligent decision and use their buying power effectively.
Caregiver
According to statistics published in June 2001 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, many families will spend over $165,000 on a child from birth to eighteen years of age. Just imagine if you have several children? When your income ranges from the mid-thirties to the mid-sixties (thousands of dollars), that is a significant amount of your income.
As a caregiver, moms are responsible for everything from vaccinations to summer camps. Their choices shape the next generation. Making the best decisions possible involved stepping up and finding out the best way to give their families what they need.
Older moms also consider the best way to care for the parents who cared for them. As people live longer, there are a greater number of middle age parents who are trading the care of their now grown children for senior parents. They are left with making the decisions about insurance, living accommodations and managing health concerns which is not easy.
The extraordinary buying power of moms results from their roles as caregiver and provider for the ones they love. They are stepping up to meet their responsibility with intelligence and strength.

10 Reasons to Have Family Meals More Often
10 Reasons to Have Family Meals More OftenWhen was the last time your family had a meal together? I don't mean sitting in the car munching on burgers from the drive-through. I mean sitting down at the table and sharing a home-cooked meal.
If you can't remember when you last enjoyed a family dinner, make plans to have them more often. Experts have found - and continue to discover - plenty of benefits for both children and adults when families have dinner together at least three times a week.
I know...I know, it's not always easy, so
click here if you need help with meal planning and grocery shopping.
Here are 10 reasons why you should have family meals more often:
Good For The Body
1. When families eat together, everyone tends to eat healthier. People who have frequent family meals consume more calcium, fiber, iron, and vitamins B6, B12, C and E. It could be because home-cooked meals are healthier than fast food and restaurant meals. (Source: Archives of Family Medicine)
2. Children tend to eat more fruits and vegetables when they frequently have dinner with their families. They also tend to eat fewer snack foods. (Source: American Dietetic Association)
3. Children in families who eat dinner together are less likely to be overweight (Source: Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine). This makes sense, given the findings in #1 and #2 above.
Good For The Brain
4. Children from families who eat meals together get better grades than their peers who don't have lots of family meal times (Source: Lou Harris-Reader's Digest National Poll). So family dinners are not only good for the body; they're
also good for the brain.
5. When families eat together frequently, children have better language skills compared to kids from families who don't have family mealtimes often. (Source: Harvard University)
Good For Emotional Health
6. Children of families who eat together report feeling happier and are more optimistic about the future, than their peers who have infrequent family meals. (Source: Lou Harris- Reader's Digest National Poll)
7. Teenagers are less likely to use drugs, smoke, and drink alcoholic drinks, when their families eat together regularly. (Source: Columbia University)
8. It may come as a surprise, but among Moms who work outside the home, those who have family mealtimes reported feeling less stress than those who had family dinners less often. (Source: Family and Consumer Sciences Research
Journal)
9. The more often teen girls had meals with their families, the less likely they were to have symptoms of depression and suicidal behaviors. (Source: University of Minnesota)
Good For Family Bonding
10. Eating together gives family members the chance to communicate and build relationships, something that both adults and children appreciate very much. (Source: Nutrition Education Network of Washington & Oprah Winfrey's "Family
Dinner Experiment")
I hope these reasons motivate you and your family to try and eat together more often. We're all busy - even children have plenty of after-school activities. But as the list above shows, family meals are worth every effort we put into them. It helps to plan ahead so that we're not scrambling to get dinner ready or panicking because we don't have all the ingredients we need.
To make it easier to get the family around the table with a home-cooked meal, check out Dine Without Whine's menu planning service. It cost just a penny to try it out!

Baby 101
What is your baby trying to tell you?
Communication - that's what a baby's crying is for. This sweet thing that suddenly turn into a fit of tears is just craving for your sweeter attention. All cultures in the world nod to this pattern all infants are accustomed to.A baby cries the most during his or her first three months. Though the amount of crying steadily increase, the crying time period may vary from an hour to most of the day and this could still be considered within normal range. Like, whoah, right? Babies are also known as howling tear factories.
Some thought that a baby cries more during the afternoon accounting it to the anxiousness of the mother or the stressed mood of the father after going home from work. But the most accepted assumption now is that babies have this automatic screening ability they use to shut off all the noise that may stimulate some response from them so they could get enough rest. But in the long run, this filter weakens and totally disappears during the approximate age of six weeks. This, then, make a baby very sensitive to the external factors such as noise, movements, etc. And these generally elicit a reaction from a baby and how best could he or she respond but only through crying.
There are many reasons why a baby succumbs to crying. Deciphering these reasons is the major feat a parent must surmount. Here are some of the things your sweetsome baby is making you understand through crying.
Hunger. Yes, your attention-hungry baby is craving to let you know that his tummy is grumbling. This is the most common reason for a baby to cry, especially, during his early months. The pattern of the hunger howl could be characterized as being persistent, demanding and almost rhythmical. But that rhythm is not at any rate close to becoming musical, of course.
Boredom. What can I say? Aren't these babies just plain spoiled? Crying because of boredom, errr, I'd find that a bit more twisted or weird if it's with an adult that is. But babies are really built like this. Crying is their way of telling you, "Hey get me a life here!" Aside from attention and food, consequently, babies need a lot of stimulation. And when they don't get this, there you get your waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!! The trick is to pick the baby up and play with him. This move may be frowned upon by some because of its amounting to spoiling the baby. But it is important to know that stimulation is also one of the major necessities of an infant and it won't hurt to provide him with some while in his growing age. This boredom cry is said to be also rhythmical and full of sobs and moans.
Discomfort. Pain is another precursor of the baby's crying. Who won't cry when in pain, right? Babies are not Major Paynes to endure the most excruciating discomfort they could undergo. They are little, vulnerable beings that need to be attended to when injured or when in an inconvenient situation. This cry could be more persistent, louder and more demanding. Shrieking and screaming, those are words that better describe the crying pattern roused by pain.
Another cause may be disturbance; surely, howling will proceed just when they're about to sleep or are already fast asleep and suddenly gets surprised by some noise, or movement. An illness that causes discomfort to a baby may also be the reason for a baby's bursting into fit of tears.

1. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site
2. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.
3. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.
4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.
5. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as "adsense text", and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.
These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.
Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.
Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.
If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

I want you to picture gazing out your window, past the patio, out onto theserene waters of the lake below
The day is just beginning, and the sun continues its routine ascension through
the cloudless sky. A gentle wind meanders its way through your bedroom as you hear the rhythmic chorus of the waves caressing the dock.
You glance at the clock and consider rolling out of your warm bed.
After all, you're on no one else's schedule but your own. You won't get punished by anyone for staying buried underneath your cozy comforter and falling back asleep.

You return to the cabin for some breakfast. But before pouring a bowl cereal
you log-in to your distributor account to check stats for the past week:

--$12,789.82 in product sales.

Got an Ezine? Sell Advertising Space
Make extra money from something you already do!
For a moment I would like you to imagine a newspaper business. This business delivers the daily paper to your doorstep everyday. How is the newspaper able to do this day in and day out? First the newspaper publisher hires reporters, writers and other important staff to create the contents and deliver the papers to their readers. In addition to the above mention, the publisher has to invest regularly in heavy duty machineries and tons of paper in printing the thousands or of newspapers they print on a daily basis.
So, how does the newspaper company make money? It is obvious that selling a copy of the paper at less than a dollar, they would not even be able to break even in their operation.
The answer? Simply, they sell advertising spaces! You have definitely seen lots of advertisements in the newspaper. The publisher simply sells advertising space in the papers to advertisers who want to leverage their advertising efforts on the paper's high readership.
In the same way a newspaper makes its money, you can make money the exact same way from your newsletter: simply by selling advertising space to prospective advertisers!
If your mailing list size exceeds 1,000 (5,000 is recommended) subscribers and beyond, you can start selling advertising space for say, $10 per sponsor ad.
In other words, you turn every issue you send out to your subscribers into a profit-pulling device. And since there is virtually no end to the stream of new businesses cropping up everyday on the internet, so are your money making opportunities.

Publish An Ezine
A Simple Business For The Work At Home Mom.
Why Publish an eZine? On the Internet, it is very possible to make money without selling any product. One way of doing so is through starting your own eZine, also known as an electronic newsletter.
In a nutshell, you send out your eZine issues on a periodical basis to your subscribers. The good part is that you have a flexible choice in automating the process of sending out your eZine issues for you or manually sending them on a periodical basis.
As an eZine publisher, not only can you easily achieve the benefits a conventional newsletter publisher enjoys without having to chop down several trees in the process, you can easily and conveniently spread your marketing influence and expertise to your base of subscribers from the shoes of an ordinary individual.
In other words, you do not have to invest in expensive printing equipment, brick and mortar business, and hiring staff just to run your own newsletter publication, resulting in a lot of time, money and effort saved.
Basically, all you need to start your own eZine are an auto responder and broadcast feature to go with, enabling you to reach out to your massive subscribers whom you can regard as your prospects, too.
All in all, if you do not have the commitments of creating your own product for sale, then publishing your own online newsletter can be one of the wisest decisions you will ever make, given the benefits of impressive marketing power and influence it can offer to you.
