Pinterest, my life in 25 boards

Pinterest, the newest, most addictive social media site on the Internet

What is Pinterest? According to the website, "Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.

Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests."

OK, so that is their vision. Follow along to see mine.

What is Pinterest to me?

What could possibly compel me to use it?

Squidoo added a button to the lenses. It simple says "Pin it". It was intriguing and I do try to keep up with the current trends. It was all over Facebook and everyone was talking about it, There was also a lot of talk about how it could drive traffic to your lenses and create backlinks. That's all well and good but what I found was so much more.

At first I was skeptical. After all, I am old school and don't really trust the Internet. (That's a contradiction since I have very personal stories on Squidoo.) Still, I checked it out.

The first thing that caught my attention was the variety of "pins" I found. I also found a couple of Squidoo folks and decided to "follow" them. Then I found some new friends with very similar interests and now a day doesn't go by where we don't have some sort of conversation about the things we love. I find things for them and they find things for me.

From my board "Shabby Chic and Victorian stuff I love"

Sometimes you just want to run away. This is where I would go.

I saved this picture so I can run away whenever I want. This appeals to my soul and everyone needs a place to relax. We don't have a home to transform so this will have to do but it works for me.

Pin originated from the website "Interior Styles and Designs - http://interiorstyledesign.tumblr.com/tagged/interiors/page/16".

All the pins can be traced back to the original site which is helpful. You can click on any of the pictures on this page to find the site where it came from.

This is something I can buy and it is saved for that reason.

From my "Crafts I want to try"

This photo, posted on Flickr, is why I now have 30 some cigar boxes. It is also why I have several ways to make flowers in the "Crafts I want to try". In fact, this was the inspiration for another lens that I am working on.

From my board "Yummy...Food!"

This is what I had for breakfast today

Squidoo has lots of recipes but not always what I want to eat. There are many more choices for the lazy cook and this is one of them. Put it in the crockpot at night and a warm, yummy breakfast awaits you upon wakening. What could be better?

You can "pin" your lenses on Pinterest

Word of advice here. I have found that my 1st module on Squidoo can be quite lengthy. When it is pinned, it fills and entire column and people tend to ignore it because it is not easy to read and has too many words. When I "pin" my lenses now, I change the opening to make it short and sweet.

The Button Craft lens was sparked by a "pin" I found. Pinterest is full of great ideas for lenses and the possibilities are endless. It may be the best idea generator of all.

I pinned my National Quilting Day lens too. Quilters may find it interesting and I might get more traffic. Besides, I have found some great new quilting patterns and tutorials and I love tutorials.

Vintage Trailers and Teardrops is my most favorite topic so I pinned my lenses there too. There are vintage trailer people out there and I have found some great photos to "pin".

You can "pin" lenses from others

In "Crafts I want to try" I have this lens. I have purchased the materials and am ready to start making my own buttons for the Button Crafts. This lensmaster is the one that allowed me to see how to do just that. I pinned this to make it easy to find what I need to know.

Getting permission

I have not only borrowed photos, I have also borrowed instructions. In all cases, I have contacted the owners of the original sites for permission and have had some really wonderful responses.

Do you "Pin"?

The pin-boards say a lot about me. I am not into wellness and fitness as there are not many pins. I do like pink and shabby chic. Quilting is a favorite and food is right up there with it. I have started crafting again because I can't resist the photos of things to do. Pinterest has taken over my life but I think it's for the better.

i would if i could get on. I don't understand the point of invite-only. They must have really limited computing resources that they're trying to manage. Maybe one of these days...

Just getting started in the Pinterest world, it hasn't become as addictive as Squidoo, but it could. :)

I just signed up last week for Pinterest. This helps a little, but I'm still lost. At least you've let me know it's worth the trouble.

Never really understood Pinterest. Now I Do! Haha! Thanks :)

I could spend hours and hours on Pinterest. Love it! You explained it very well. I started with a board of ideas for our new house and have expanded to lots more boards. Now when I'm looking for a particular, well just about anything that would have a picture, I generally go to Pinterest first. Groundhog Day blessings to you!

Helpful lens! I guess Pinterest will be my next social media venture!!
  • vallain Jan 26, 2012 @ 8:24 pm | delete
Yes, you could definitely analyze someone by checking out their pin boards on Pinterest. You can see what upcoming lenses I'll have by what I'm pinning too. Right now my boards on school desegregation, closet conversions and picture layouts are filling up.

I'm waiting for my pinterest invitation - I cannot wait to try it! As I understand it there is a 1 week wait list, we'll see how long mine takes.

I'm loving Pinterest, too! It was fun to see a summary lens of your boards and pins. See you over there!
  • veryirie Jan 26, 2012 @ 2:41 pm | delete
I'm really enjoying your selections, Ann! Whenever I repin from Pinterest, I also try to trace the photo back to the original source and lick back to them and credit them. Otherwise, I don't repin.
  • scarlettohairy Jan 26, 2012 @ 2:33 pm | delete
I love your selections of boards and contents. It is so fun to cruise around and see what else others like. I'm glad you mentioned giving credit to the original posters. So important!
