The Top Ten Reasons I Like Pinterest

Ranked #1,480 in Internet, #85,624 overall

You Might Like Pinterest, Too

Pinterest bills itself as a "virtual pinboard." I call it a whole lot of fun and at least a little bit addicting. If you aren't invited by a friend to join, you can request an invitation directly from Pinterest by clicking a button on the home page. There's a lot to like about Pinterest. Here's my countdown.

Pinterest is Free.

There's no cost to join and no fees or expenses to use the site.

Pinterest is Easy to Use.

Once you get your email with your login, you can jump right in and start pinning things to boards. Pinterest offers easy directions for installing a "Pin It" button to your toolbar so you can be merrily pinning from almost any site you visit. I even got the "Pin It" button to work on my iPad, so I can feed the addiction on the road.

Pinterest is a Planning Tool.

Lots of Pinterest members use the boards to organize projects, such as home remodeling or planning a wedding. Whether it's kitchen hardware or bridesmaid bling, when you find it somewhere on the web, you can collect all the choices on a pinboard and ponder your decision.

Pinterest is a Recipe File and Craft Project Folder.

Now my actual pile of recipe clippings has a virtual cousin. Much neater, but it may be a problem. Pinterest boards don't seem to have a limit, but with all the neat-oh recipes out there, my food board may test Pinterest's maximum allowable size parameters.
And, don't even get me started on all the awesome crafts and DIY projects out there. I have "how to" videos to fill the next several rainy days, pinned to my "Great Projects" board.

Pinterest is a Way to Get to Know Your Friends Better.

Looking at your friends' boards gives you insight into their interests, styles, and maybe even their dreams. You can "follow" your friends (and they can follow you). Pinterest automatically shares your finds and the things your friends are pinning on the main page, which defaults to "Pinners You Follow." You can always choose to unfollow someone, or even just unfollow one or more of their boards. So, if you really don't think you can handle one more "cute" nail polish idea, go to the offender's page and click the button on that board. Simple as that.

Pinterest is a Way to Make New Friends.

Once you've satisfied yourself with your friends' pins for the day (hour, or minute), click on "Everything," on the Pinterest main page, and open up a limitless world of imagination. Now, you're seeing everything everyone in the Pinterest community is pinning. If you notice you're repinning several ideas from a single source, you can click on the pinner's name, visit his or her page and follow the boards you like, for instant delivery of those great ideas.

Pinterest is a Way to Share Your Passions.

Pinterest's Terms of Use policy discourages flagrant self promotion, but the founders concede it's okay to post some of your own creations. So, you may start a board with one of your Squidoo lenses but when it's something you're passionate about, you're bound to come upon more great links to add to the board. Now you've created a useful resource for someone else who shares your passion!

Pinterest is a Visioning Tool.

Call them dream books, vision boards, or wish lists, fantasizing about what we want in the world can help motivate us to create it in our lives. Remember Sarah BanBreathnach's "Illustrated Discovery Journal" concept? Snipping pictures that appeal to you can give you insight into your authentic style. Your Pinterest boards may actually lead you to greater self understanding.

Pinterest is Pretty.

I love magazines. To me, having the time to flip through the glossy pages of a beautifully designed periodical is the ultimate luxury. And, I don't care what anyone else says, I'm in it for the pictures. Pinterest is like a big, thick, never ending magazine of pretty pictures.

Pinterest Delivers.

There is more information online than anyone can ever hope to sift through. And, unless your area of interest is extremely obscure, searches can deliver hundreds of thousands of results. At Pinterest, you can capitalize on the researching skills of the community. The best, most clever, easiest, and most beautiful of whatever you're looking for is dropped right into your lap (-top, or other device). What's more convenient than that?

At this writing, I've made 24 boards with 246 pins. (See? Addicted!) In addition to the ones I've mentioned above, I'm collecting, quotes, humor, favorite music, stunning photographs, holiday ideas, and more. Wanna come see?

I still haven't figured it out, sounds like its a giant mood board. Not sure about joining maybe if I had a massive project then would be useful. Thanks for your insights :)

    I like pinterest too...
it's simple, ads free (I wonder how they earn from that), looks like a photo sharing delicious.com site, and also helps you benefit from seo as it lets you have backlinks
    Hey I'll follow you there..

I've joined Pinterest and done a little pinning. And it's fun. But I must admit I don't totally get it. People who don't even know me follow me. How do they do that? I mean how do they learn about me? Amazing. d

I've just started using Pinterest and am having a lot of fun with it - it's a great way to both show off fun little comics and such, but to save recipes and everything, like a social version of a bookmarking page. Love it!

Great lens! (And I popped over to follow a few of your Pinterest boards!)

Crafts is my favorite area of Pinterest and there are TONS of crafts or DIYs on there. Almost everyone has a crafts board. I have 34 boards and 2600 pins so I haven't been doing much housework, let's just say that! Thanks for this lens. It was interesting. No history lessons. :)
