Pin Up Girl Clothing started as a little home-based business in 1996 where founder Laura Byrnes was selling her sexy, retro clothing designs off a single rolling rack in the living room. Laura, a relocated punk rocker from New York City, had been a fan and collector of vintage clothing and jewelry, Vargas and Petty Pinups, and had been Los Angeles lounge scenester for years, while working as a professional photographer for the music and retro scene. Frustrated with magazine work, and with a passion for 50s pinup style, she started sewing her own designs on one machine, building a following for her custom-fitted originals amongst retro kittens who had exhausted local thrift store supplies. She sought to make vintage styles more wearable with modern interpretations of classic silhouettes in breathable and comfortable fabrics for retro girls of all sizes.Two and a half years later, she became an online trail-blazer by launching pinupgirlclothing.com. With a team of seamstresses, Pin Up Girl! debuted 50 items, all made to order in-house. As the website grew, so did the customer call for more items: Dresses need shoes! Outfits need jewelry! Pinup Girls need fabulous bags! In 1999, this was a tall order, but Laura began scouring the retail market for small companies that shared her love of vintage-styling, discovering some amazing brands along the way and bringing them to the online community: Eldorado Club, Classic Hardware, and Lucky LooLoo jewelry, hot retro fashions from EC Star, Lucky 13, Rock Steady, and Paper Doll Productions, and an amazing collection of shoes from Punkrose, Demonia, Ellie, Pleaser, TUK Shoes, and more.
She's had an amazing eye for picking out what the retro world will want next, often introducing the community to the brands that everyone will carry next. And she's been incredibly successful in anticipating trends, which is why pinupgirlclothing.com has been the leading online source for sexy Halloween costumes since 1999.And all the while, the original line has grown and expanded as well.
