Pirates, aside from being very cool, are mean, dirty, frequently drunk, and often very naughty indeed. Babies are miracles of cuteness, sweet, pink and big on the kootchie-koo.

So why do I want to put these two things together? Why do I want to dress my baby in pirate gear and reach for the video camera when she dribbles and says 'aaarghhh'?

Because I can! Because it's gorgeous. Because it's stacks of fun, and prime material for her 21st. (And possibly her shrink, one day.)

I suspect I am not alone in wishing to dress my darling angel-baby as a marauding corsair, so please enjoy the links I have found below.

Pirate Baby range at Stardust Kids

Stardust Kids are a UK range of the funnest, funkiest baby clothes I've seen. They've been making quality kids clothes since 1998, and they have a great collection of striking, edgy, alternative kids clothing. Their pirate range is stacks of fun and includes this Jolly Roger onesie, which comes in black, red and hot pink.

Of course, they ship worldwide, and you can see their complete range (including maternity wear and baby toys and gifts) at www.stardustkids.co.uk

Girls can be pirates too, savvy?
No need for your pirate princess to get around in drab black. This long sleeve shirt also comes in hot pink stripes. All Stardust clothes are 100% cotton and come in sizes from 0-6mths to 6-8 years.

Jolly Roger Shoes
These full-leather shoes are handmade in the UK. They have suede non-slip soles to better help crawlers and toddlers stay on their feet. The leather and the dyes are all non toxic and safe. And so these pirate shoes double as being perfect pirate teethers! Also in pink!

Yarn Dyed Stripy Jolly Rogers
These stripy tees come in stripy blue too. Yarn dyed means the threads are dyed before the fabric is made and this gives the clothes the best quality in terms of appearance and wear. Baby sizes have shoulder poppers for easy dressing, while the older sizes have round necks.

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Milk

Pirate Bibs - because all pirates are messy eaters

These are my favourite pirate designs on an easy-wash, 100% cotton bib. One size fits newborns to 36 months.

There are a huge range of pirate themed bibs on CafePress. Some of them are quite blood-thirsty, but here are some of my favorite, more harmless ones.

Pirate Booties

No, you can't dress your baby in knee high swashbuckling boots. But fear not - we have the booty ...booties...

Onesies, Jumpsuits, Rompers

Seems everyone has a different name for these things. My mum called them Jumpsuits. My aunt calls them Rompers. My girlfriends call them Onesies. What do pirates call them? I don't know. But all babies spend an awful amount of time in them. If you've got to dribble and drool in one of these, you may as well look piratical while you're doing it...

Pirate Socks

Here are 2 packs of Jolly Roger pirate socks - for pirate boys and pirate girls. They are a beautifully presented pack of 10 odd (but matching) socks which makes doing the laundry very easy - wash them, throw them in a drawer, grab two and get on with your day - no need to worry about pairing socks up as they all go together!

Even, if you lose one, two or more socks - it doesn't matter - as you still have loads of great combinations left!

They come in size ranges from 0-6months up to 8 years.

Check out these fantastic Pirate Socks here.

Pirate Hair Clips

Yeah baby - these are cool. Jolly Rogette hairslides. I love them.

Get them from StardustKids.

They also have a few other rockabilly type designs - cherries, black cats, cards and dice etc. All in chunky silver, and all very hot!

Pirate Bandages!

Aaarrggh! That hurts!

The pirates have been sword-fighting in the backyard again, and as usual, someone got a little too excited with their cutlass!

Treat minor cuts, scrapes and scratches on little pirates with the incredible healing power of a pirate plaster. And if a fancy skull and crossbones bandaid isn't enough to dry up those tears, how about a FREE TOY! Each metal pocket tin contains twenty-five 3" x 3/4" (7.6 cm x 1.9 cm) adhesive bandages and a small plastic trinket to help make even the ouchiest owies feel all better in no time.

Jolly Roger Pyjamas

Pirate pyjamas (in the traditional tops and bottoms style) in both black and pink - covered in Jolly Rogers. Size ranges from 1-2years up to 9-10 years.

My bestest favoritest pirate joke ever

This joke works best when you say it out loud.

Q. Why are pirates called pirates?

A. Because they ARRRRRRRRRE

Oh come on, it was funny!

Pirate Pictures for Kids

There are a lot of pirate posters out there - especially after the raging success of Pirates of the Carribean. But if you don't think Johnny Depp is quite right for the nursery, (believe me, I think having Johnny Depp anywhere is just fine, but...) then take a look at some of these cute little pirate pictures. Art.com have an enormous range of children's artwork (as well as everything else). They can ship posters or fully framed artworks. It's a great service and I particularly recommend it. I had a lot of success finding a poster that had been on my wall when I was a child. I found it on art.com and now it hangs on the wall in my baby's room.
