LOCATION

The high seas not being available, we found an amazing rustic campground for rent with plenty of cabins for the voluntarily overserved, a full kitchen and large dining hall, and a wonderful campfire 'theater' at the edge of a quiet lake.

Accomodations for over 100 guests were available, and we had several dozen take us up on the offer and stay the night. Cabins slept families of 4-6 people and had electricity and heat.

COSTUMES aka GARB

Can you imagine your mother-in-law in a medieval gown?

There were a few people who did not dress up for our wedding, but many did, to our delight.

We found most of the items we needed on eBay. The wedding party dressed in attire very similar to the costumes pictured above (Pirate Couple Matching Costumes) and other family members found suitable finery at thrift shops, Halloween costume outlets or made their own.

INVITATION SCROLLS

We printed our invitations on parchment paper and rolled them up, securing them with gold ring party favors.

Most of our invitations were hand-delivered.

The remainder were mailed in matching parchment envelopes with blacklettering to match the invitations.

The parchment paper and envelopes were purchased at an office supply store, and the gold ring favors were found at a dollar store.

We used online "pirate speak" translators to help change the traditional phrasing to something more appropriate for the occasion.

our flowers and rings

The bouquets were made by a friend of the bride, from flowers bought at the dollar store to match the burgundy fabric of the dresses. They looked wonderful!

The rings were purchased online and read:

One ring to show our love
One ring to bind us
One ring to seal our love
and forever to entwine us

(of course, it is in Ancient Elvish)

TREASURE CHEST FOR BOOTY

Family members helped decorate the treasure chest -- an authentic antique chest found at a barn sale -- with pewter trinkets, colored glass baubles, shiny metallic coins and strings of pearls acquired for far less than a dollar each.

A slot was cut into the tray that sat in the top of the chest for cards, envelopes and notes from our guests.

CAKES, FOOD & GROG

Family members provided a homemade treasure chest cake and a store-bought special order medieval castle cake.

We rented a pig roaster and cooked a whole pig. Other guests provided food for a potluck style feast.

Keg beer was on tap, with other beverages brought by our guests on a BYOB basis. Captain Morgan was a crowd favorite. *g*

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

As if the wedding party didn't provide enough amusement for all, we also booked a classic rock/country band that graciously agreed to play "until the guitarist passes out" and that they did.

We had prepared some music on CD for the "dollar jello shot and/or dance" and the bride & groom's first dance.

Our song? Little Moments, by Brad Paisley.

"Remember,
it's not 'I do.'
It's 'Aye, me 'earty!'"

parents of the bride

I cannot thank my family and friends enough for going along with our crazy idea. I know it must sound white trash as all get out to some of the readers out there, but it was an absolute riot for us.
