Pivot Points For Day Trading Forex Futures Trader...

Pivot points are support and resistance levels derived from the previous period's high, low, and closing values.

Pivot points are a popular tool used as support and resistant by futures traders in all sorts of markets, ranging from equity indices to crude oil. And, sure enough, pivot points are readily applied to trading forex futures.

There are a variety of pivot values with which to trade, including monthly, weekly, and daily values. You could even calculate hourly values. When determining which period to trade with, you've got to consider your time frame as an individual and your particular style.

Daily pivot points use as traditional support and resistance techniques for enter and exit trades. Here the formula to calculate day trading pivot values.

Pivot Point (PP) = (High + Low + Close) / 3
Resistance 1 (R1) = (2 x Pivot Point) - Low
Support 1 (S1) = (2 x Pivot Point) - High
Resistance 2 (R2) = Pivot Point + (Resistance 1 - Support 1)
Support 2 (S2) = Pivot Point - (Resistance 1 - Support 1)

Pivot Point Trading

Pivot points are yet another useful tool that can be added to any trader's toolbox. It enables anyone to quickly calculate levels that are likely to cause price movement. The success of a pivot-point system, however, lies squarely on the shoulders of the trader, on his or her ability to effectively use the pivot-point systems in conjunction with other forms of technical analysis.

New Wikipedia

Pivot point calculations are used by security traders to attempt to predict support and resistance levels. They are commonly used in the forex and commodity futures markets. Pivot point analysis is a subset of technical analysis, although it is not as popular or well known as other technical methods.

Pivot points are frequently used by foreign exchange traders as a means to calculate resistance and support levels which are, in turn, used as visual cues to execute trades. Pivot point calculations provide traders with objective visual bench marks which some use to predict price changes, although the validity of these levels is still subject to debate.
