You know when you hear the name Disney Pixar that the movie is going to be great. It will push the boundaries of animation, tell a great story,make you laugh and even make you cry.

It may surprise you to learn that Disney Pixar has only produced 10 movies since they first captured our imagination with the brilliant Toy Story in 1995. Buzz Lightyear and his friends have become part of our culture. The latest Disney Pixar movie Up was released in May 2009 and is already predicted to be one of the major movie box office successes of the decade.

So join me on a journey through the first 10 of the Disney Pixar movies. And look forward to 2010 with a sneak peak of the much awaited Toy Story 3 movie.

Buzz Lightyear - To Infinity and Beyond

Toy Story was a ground breaker. The first feature length movie released which used only computer generated graphics.

The relationship between Disney and Pixar began in 1991 when a 3 movie deal, the first of which was to be Toy Story. Released in November 1995 and staring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, directed by John Lasseter, the movie grossed over $365 million worldwide.

I still remember the first time I saw Toy Story. It really was so unlike anything which had gone before. But as with all Disney Pixar movies you start just to accept the amazing technology and just enjoy the sheer entertainment value of the movie.

The impact of Toy Story has been huge. Buzz Lightyear himself even went into space. The crew of the Discovery Space Shuttle took him on a mission in 2008!

This 10th anniversary edition of Disney Pixar's Toy Story is a must have for any movie enthusiast. A true ground breaker in animation - as well as one of the most entertaining of the Pixar movies.

This remastered edition looks and sounds stunning. I always like the extra features included with the DVD releases and I particularly like this as it has some great interviews with the creators, John Lasseter,Peter Jackson and Roy Disney talking about the movie.

Disney Pixar A Bug's Life

How do you follow the success of Toy Story? It was a difficult act to follow but in 1998 Pixar released A Bug's Life

The movie grossed around $365 million worldwide so obviously they really didn't do too bad a job.

A Bug's Life was again directed by John Lasseter. Andrew Stanton co directed. It follows the adventures of Flik, Princess Atta and Heimlich as they battle against the grasshoppers lead by the ruthless Hopper.

A Bug's Life is simply a very enjoyable movie. The kids will love it and the adults are just as likely to enjoy it too. A great family movie.

Pixar's A Bugs Life is a great movie for all the family. One of the best features of this DVD is the 'bloopers' feature. Just really funny!

Toy Story 2 Movie

Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Friends Return for Toy Story 2

At first Toy Story 2 was not intended to be released in movie theaters. This was going to be a direct to video movie. But Disney saw the first versions and wanted it to be a general theater release movie. So Pixar set about changing the movie from the original 60 to the final 90 minute version.

Toy Story 2 was a difficult time for the Disney Pixar relationship. Disputes arose as to whether or not Toy Story 2 should count towards the now 5 movie deal with they had agreed. Pixar announced in 2004 that it would be seeking other partners as it was not renewing it's deal with Disney. Of course all these differences were resolved

The original cast including Tom Hanks and Tim Allen returned for Toy Story 2

Once again it was a huge success for Pixar and the movie grossed around $485 million worldwide.

Pixar Monsters Inc

Monsters, Inc. was another big hit for Pixar - taking over $525 million at the box office. For me this has to be my least favorite movie. I have memories of my then 3 year old daughter being scared by it! The story follows Sulley and Mike who are both monsters working for Monsters Inc. Their job is to scare children and capture their screams to make electricity for the city. So perhaps I am unusually sensitive and no one else out there minds about this basic storyline!

Of course Sulley and Mike are good monsters and everything has a happy ending. The Pixar animation is amazing of course. Certainly a movie well worth seeing provided you don't have an unusually sensitive toddler (or parent for that matter)!

Lightning McQueen and his friends hit the movie theaters with Disney Pixar Cars in June 2006. It didn't have quite the box office success of earlier Pixar movies but nevertheless grossed a respectable $462 million worldwide. The commercial success of Cars has really been the merchandise with an estimated $5 billion in sales and counting. In June 2007 Disney Pixar's Ratatouille movie was released. Disney was pretty used to mice, but could it make a movie with an ambitious rat as it's main character a success? If I had to pick a favorite Disney Pixar movie then Wall-E would be the one. A critical and box office success it grossed $534 million worldwide and picked up the Academy Award in 2008 for Best Animated Feature.

The animation in Wall-e is stunning. There is very little dialogue in this movie about the last robot left on the earth after humans have damaged it so much it is no longer possible to live there. Wall-e is the lovable but lonely robot who is looking for companionship. Directed by Andrew Stanton for me this is the best of all the Disney Pixar creations.

This is what we have been waiting for! Toy Story 3. We have to wait a bit longer as the release date is not set until June 2010. But here is the new sneak peak trailer. I saw this when I watched Disney Pixar Up in 3D and the effects were amazing.
