Five cards were released with the latest expansion block as Planeswalkers, an entirely new Magic Card Type. The Plainswalkers, one of each of the 5 colors, consist of

Chandra Nalaar is impulsive, and her magic and her personality-are all about fire. A combination that doesn't go so well together. She has big problems with authority figures and not being in control, which advserly affects her ability to control her own magic.

Ajani is a proud and noble Leonin, or half lion, half man creature. His magic centers around the light or white magic and the light of ones soul. Ajani was raised among a pride of Leonin, and his older brother became the leader and hero of the pride. Ajani's brother was then murdered, and Ajani himself was half-blinded and left for dead. Without its leader, the pride went its seperate ways. Ajani has pledged to find his brother's killer and to reunite the pride. But the longer the search for his Brother's killer goes, the more Ajani begins to lose sight of the difference between justice and revenge.

Garruk is a hunter to the core, a warrior-druid who believes the best way to respect nature is to live naturally, with ferocity and hunger. Garruk is gruff, impatient, and doesn't suffer fools. His magic is about summoning the beasts of the forest and channeling their might. Garruk feels uneasy in conversation or in cities; he prefers the wilds. He aspires to be a predator, but as he comes to understand the cycle of life, he will grapple with the fact that death is part of that cycle. Is it natural for a predator to enjoy the kill?

Ah, that sweet Sexy Liliana Vess. But don't let her charisma, charm, and beuty full you, she has a darker side. Liliana is the girl your mother warned you about. Her dark charisma is undeniable-she's witty, magnetic, and unabashedly sexy. Liliana believes everyone's looking out for themselves, and that she's just a little better at it than others. Although Liliana looks as though she's in her 20s, in reality she is much, much, much older. Long ago she made a dark deal with ancient, sinister forces to secure her necromantic power and youthful beauty.

Jace is smart, maybe too smart for his own good. His magic is all about the mind-clairvoyance, telepathy, illusion. He is naturally reserved, confident in his own abilities but not cocky. Jace's capacity for deception has led him to make some bad choices, but he has always managed to escape the consequences. Just as blue mana is poised between white and black, Jace has a complex and troubled conscience. The nature of his abilities means he must make difficult decisions about what's right and how his actions define him.

Planeswalker is a new card type. You can play a planeswalker only at the time you could play a sorcery. A planeswalker is a permanent, so when a planeswalker spell resolves, it comes into play under your control. Any spell or ability that affects a permanent (for example, "destroy target permanent") can affect a planeswalker. Note that planeswalkers aren't creatures; if a card says it affects a creature, it won't affect a planeswalker.

Each planeswalker has a subtype. For example, Jace Beleran says "Planeswalker -- Jace" on its type line. If two or more planeswalkers that share a subtype are in play, they're all put into their owners' graveyards as a state-based effect.

A Planeswalkers "Loyalty" is printed in its lower right corner. It comes into play with that many loyalty counters on it. If it is in ever in play with no loyalty counters on it then it's put into the owner's graveyard.
