Planet 51 Who Are The Aliens?

Planet 51 is an animated science fiction adventure comedy about an astronaut, Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker, from earth landing on an alien planet. The scientific community on earth believed Planet 51 was uninhabited.

Astronaut Captain Baker is the all American hero out to explore the universe. When he steps out of his spacecraft he believes he has made a terrific discovery. His enthusiasm is cut short when he discovers Planet 51 is inhabited with little green aliens.

Planet 51 Invaded By Aliens

White Picket Fence Communities

Planet 51 is inhabited by little green people living happily in white picket fence communities. This planet is reminiscent of a time of cheerful optimism and innocents of 1950s America.

The little green people have one universal fear and that is that their Utopian community will be invaded by aliens. Just like Chuck, this extra large extraterrestrial that has landed on their planet.

The paranoid inhabitants of Planet 51 attempt to capture the peaceful visitor. They plan on placing him in the Alien Invaders Space Museum.

Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker

Chuck Is An Astronaut

Dwayne Johnson is the voice of Chuck

Chuck has always wanted to be an astronaut and dreamed of it as a kid. The school guidance counselor questioned Chuck whether he was smart enough to be an astronaut. Chuck quickly replied, "Of course, it's not rocket science". His guidance counselor reminded Chuck that, "actually it is rocket science."

Chuck may not be the brightest star in outer space but, he's an astronaut. Chuck lands on Planet 51 and has the surprise of his life, there is life. Through his adventures he makes a new friend in Lem, one of the green people on the planet.

Both Chuck and Lem benefit from their friendship with each other. Lem realizes that even with all of Chuck's craziness, foolishness and arrogance their is still a very earnest way about him.

Chuck gains a new view on inter-planetary life. Space aliens are people too. There are a lot of insecurities Chuck is dealing with, the same fears we all face. There comes a point in life and it is always a very defining point, when you have to stand up. Chuck comes to the realization that you have to stand up for something.

Rover

Robotic Exploration Vehicle

Rover came with Chuck on the spacecraft and transmits complex scientific data back to Earth. At one point in the film Chuck gives Rover a scolding for taking pictures of rocks. Is Rover only sending back to earth rock images and not images of the people or their communities?

While on Planet 51 Rover becomes Skiff's friend and they form a strong bond with each other. Rover must help Chuck navigate this strange new world to find a way back to the spacecraft and home before it is too late.

Lem

The Hero

Justin Long is the voice of Lem.

On the surface Lem is a shy geek, but underneath beats the heart of a hero. He is a dreamer with a very passionate interest in space and yearns to find out what the universe has to offer. Lem has a very limited view of the universe until Chuck arrives.

Some kids are born great and others have greatness thrust upon him. Lem had Chuck thrust upon him. At first it may look like a bad deal, having to help this weird, loud alien find his rocket so he can return home. But...

Chuck teaches Lem about the potential of what is out there and that the universe is far more limitless than he has been lead to believe.

Not only does Chuck teach him about the galaxy, the universe and space, but about love, the human condition and girls. He helps Lem out with Neera.

Chuck teaches him about being a man, standing up for himself and having the self confidence to go for what he wants. Lem learns about courage, loyalty, sacrifice and himself through this adventure.

Neera

The Girl Next Door

Jessica Biel is the voice of Neera.

Neera is your typical girl next door smart and pretty. But, don't be fooled by her demure looks. She is tougher than she looks, but she also has a soft side to her.

Neera speaks her mind loud and clear. Don't dare tell her what to do or who to hang out with. Neera is like a lot of 16 year old girls, she's torn between being a rebel and playing it safe.

Eckle

Obsessed With Monsters & Aliens

Freddie Benedict is the voice of Eckle

Eckle is a 7 year old kid on Planet 51. He is obsessed with monsters, aliens, science fiction films and comic books. He's a lot like a 7 year old kid on earth.

You may know an Eckle. He's always shooting his toy gamma death ray gun at just about everything to eliminate it. He makes screeching cries of a Martian Cosmonaut as he's obliterated by solar storm radiation.

Glar

The Protester

Alan Marriott is the voice of Glar.

Glar protests about everything and uses every slang word he can find. He constantly plays his guitar and sings loudly. Glar goes to school with Lem and Neera. He can be a pain but he has a good heart.

Skiff

Lem's Best Friend

Sean William Scott is the voice of Skiff

Skiff is Lem's best friend, even though Lem thinks he is a nut case.

Skiff is into conspiracy theories about alien life and is a big science fiction movie fan. He believes the government is involved in a big cover up involving alien landings on Planet 51.

When Skiff meets Rover, an robotic exploration vehicle, they become friends and form a strong bond with each other.

General Grawl

Distrustful Of Foreigners

Gary Oldman is the voice of General Grawl

General Grawl is a three star general and takes his job very seriously. He is the Commander of the Army's patriotism. General Grawl lives and breathes for the job of stopping alien invaders from taking over Planet 51.

General Grawl illustrates how distrustful we are of a foreigner or an outsider and we are quick to judge.

Professor Kipple

Obsessed With Collecting Brains

John Cleese is the voice of Professor Kipple

Professor Kipple is a really smart doctor and obsessed with collecting brains for scientific study? He just happens to be the smartest resident of Planet 51 and will tell anyone who will listen.

Professor Kipple has set his sights on an alien brain. His mission is getting Chuck's brain out of his head and into his laboratory for scientific experiments.

Story About Personal Power

We Are All Important

There is a personal lesson and moral that can be taken away from the story. It's about your own personal power and not being afraid of having an adventure. Each one of us are important so don't judge people by the way they look.

You have to stand on your own two feet and think for yourself. You don't want to be a judgmental person about new ideas and people. If you are you won't grown as a person.

It's rated PG for the mild sci-fi action and some suggestive humor. Planet 51 is a funny, fun adventure that I feel the whole family would enjoy, if you feel your children are old enough for the PG rating.
