The first segment of the Planet Earth Series, entitled "From Pole to Pole," gives a condensed overview of the entire planet from the North Pole to the South Pole and everything in between. This episode is a basic introduction to the series and sets the tone for the following installments.

The second episode of the Planet Earth series, "Mountains," explores all of the major mountain ranges on Earth. This includes Erta Ale in Ethiopia, which is the worlds longest erupting volcano (over 100 years). Wildlife explored in this installment include Geladas, Walia Ibex, Ethiopian Wolves, Puma, and the Grizzly Bear. The most noteworthy segment in this episode is the first ever documented sighting of the Snow Leopard.
