I have the perfect garden for people that want to enjoy their garden, long after the sun's gone down.... Whether you're a romantic at heart or just work until dark, A "Moonlight Garden" can offer you a perfect setting to relax or pursue romance...
Do you work all day, and by the time you get home it's too late to enjoy the garden you spent many hours, planting and tending to?
Maybe you need to consider planting an evening garden? A garden that comes alive at dusk, and gets more enchanting after dark. Coming to life with beautiful hues, and soft scents that float through the night air.
An evening garden can offer you a wonderful place to wind down after a hard day at work or perhaps a sweet fragrance drifting in through your bedroom window, and lulling you off to good nights sleep.
An evening garden is easy to plant. However, there are a few simple rules you will need to know before you choose your flowers, and ground cover for your garden.

A Charming Evening Oasis...
Here Are A few Photo's Of My Moonlight Garden...
I hope you enjoy them, as much as I enjoy sharing them....
This is one of my moonlight gardens, I have placed a few solar lights to enchase the moonlight... I have used loads of white Cosmos, and white impatient's along with white Alyssum, just for the sweet scent...
Going Plant an Evening Garden?
Keep in mind, you need flower's that will come alive, after dark.

An evening garden should consist of flowers that will be showy in the moonlight. Flowers that are white or very light in color are the best visible at night.
White flowers are especially lumpiness in the moonlight.
You will also want to look for flowers that limit their bloom time to dusk on into the dark of night, keeping their blooms closed during the light of day.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised that many of these nocturnal blooms possess wonderful fragrances. Moreover, the night air along with dew stands to intensify the scents of these night bloomer's...
Here is just a few flowers you might consider for your evening garden.
I will start with my favorite - the Moonflower...
The Moon flower are an annual vine, that love warm weather. The Moonflower has a showy large white flower, and nice size deep green leaf. It blooms from dusk to dawn, and has a bueatiful soft scent, that can be compared to the scent of babypowder. I suggest this is a flower you might consider planting near your bedroom window, it's scent is lovrly.
This plant is a climber, and will require an arbor. I suggest you plant the moonflower from seeds, they are very easy to plant, and hardy, even in poorer soil.

Alyssum... soft carpets of sweet fragrances

Alyssum, are easy to grow, and you will be surprised how quickly they cover your garden with a soft little lacy flower, with a honey-like scent... Alyssum, are great border plants, they grow about 4-5 inches in height. The Alyssum can be enjoyed not only in the evening, but all through the day.
I again suggest you plant Alyssum in white or very light pink , for an evening garden.
Alyssum is hearty, and do well in any kind of soil.

White Rose Bushes

White rose bushes are wonderful in an evening garden. They're not only fragrant, but white roses are showy after dark. Plus they are great for cutting flowers that can be enjoyed in a summer bouquet.
Hydrangeas are Spectacular Day or Night !

Hydrangeas have wonderful big showy blooms, and come in many different heights. Keep in mind if you want to enjoy your Hydrangeas in the evening, keep to the rule of buying the light colored Hydrangeas.
I like the taller Hydrangeas, placed at the back of a garden. These lovely blooms are also great cutting flowers.

Pink Evening Primrose...

Pink Evening Primrose is another good choice for an evening garden with its satiny, heart - shaped petals form an open like cup, with long stamens. The scent is somewhat like a mixture of honeysuckle and lemon.
Pink Evening Primrose in your evening garden is a must...
White Impatiens Are A must In Your Evening Garden

Impatiens is a staple in any garden. However, white Impatiens are a must in an evening garden. White Impatiens truly reflect moonlight, they are almost luminous...The Impatiens grow well in shade, and flowers all summer. They don't have a fragrance, but make up for by forming huge round mounds of showy small flowers.
Impatiens in hanging planters are a good addition to a garden scape also wonderful in window boxes.
Give Your Evening Garden A Bit Of Extra Dimension - With a few candles, and a water feature....

Want to make your evening garden just a bit more special? Add a few well placed candles, and a water feature. Even if it's a small fountain, that sound of water really can make an evening more magical.
The visual impact of the white flowers, the soft scents of the flowers. and the sounds of the evening all combine to make the evening garden a place that will calm and sooth the spirit...
Set The Mood With Soft Lights

With a few well placed lighting features, your garden will take on a relaxing place to unwind at the end of a long day or a very romantic space for two, to enjoy the scents of the flowers, and perhaps a balmy nights breeze.

- I start my Moonflowers from seed in a large pot, this gives me several plants, I can transplant out of the pot, to many locations. I also leave a few plants in the pot, and place it on my deck near my bedroom window, I just love the baby powder scent, at night, The Moonflower grow very well from seed, and Maryland has a great climate that the Moonflower would love. Try to plant from seed, it's also economical. Shar

- I got a moon flower plant once, I loved it. I don't understand why they aren't carried at more garden centers here in Maryland. I am rolling this lens to my US National Arboretum lens. Washingtonians could certainly benefit from having an evening garden, since they sit in traffic half the day day!
