The Plantar Warts Duct Tape "Cure" - will it work ?
Short answer -- MAYBE !
This cure involves covering you plantar wart with duct tape -- or any other waterproof adhesive tape. You then leave it covered for 7 - 10 days without removing it. This drys out the wart and deprives it from the moisture often found in our shoes and socks. After removing the tape, and using alcohol or wipes for sterilization, you can file off the "dead" outer cells of the wart. HOWEVER, this exercise must be repeated over and over, until the entire growth is gone.
Drawbacks ? How patient are you ? How clean/sterile can you keep the area during this extended period of time? Are you sure you can get it all? Because plantar warts in particular are prone to grow "inward", due to pressure from walking on them ! Additionally, this works best for small, individual warts, and will be much less effective (and much "messier") for clustered or "mosaic" warts -- these can sometimes measure an inch across !

Plantar Warts Duct Tape Cure - what would your doctor say?
Your doctor would say: "...get your wallet out..."
You and I both know that your MD will likely pooh-pooh any natural or non-medically sanctioned treatment. But what can they offer you ? Here are the basic options they may suggest... they will likely be expensive and many can still take multiple visits and weeks or months to complete:
- Cryotherapy involves freezing your warts with a solution (like, sodium nitride) that destroys the virus and causes the wart to turn black and fall off -- usually within a few days. This treatment is ineffective in some cases when the solution does not penetrate far enough to completely destroy the virus.
- Surgical removal is called curettage, and is an outpatient- procedure performed in a podiatrist's office under local anesthesia. This is only done for very small warts (1-2 cm) but not for large clusters -- which can grow to over an inch across !
- Acid Treatment - If indicated,, podiatrists apply mild acid (like salicylic acid, cantharidin, dichloroacetic acid) topically to treat plantar warts. This treatment, which often requires multiple applications over the course of several weeks, disintegrates viral cells and allows healthy skin cells to replace them.
- Laser treatments can sometimes be used to treat your plantar warts. Laser treatment is performed in a podiatrist's office or an outpatient surgery facility using local anesthesia. Lasers produce only very little scarring.
