So you have a bunch on plants ready to be set to the ground but how do you go about planting grape vines?Well, there are a few guidelines you should follow when you do this. You want your vine to be as healthy and productive as possible and therefore you should look at these 13 bullet points:
1. Grapes need sunlight and high temperature to produce high quality grapes. Therefore you need to plant the grape vines on south facing slopes or walls.
North facing slopes or low grounds are not good for grape vines.
2. The soil has to be well drained and grape vines are happy with poor soil that doesn't have so much nutrients.
3. The best time to plant is in the spring when the soil can be worked. The plants are very sensitive to frost, so make sure that you begin planting after the last frost.
4. Choose healthy plants that has well developed root systems. This will give the plant the best possible condition to adapt and start growing.

9. Cover the roots with soil and make sure that the roots are fully covered.
10. Cover with 4 - 6 inches of leaf mulch to keep unwanted weeds away and to conserve the moist in the soil. You can also add manure, grass clippings and coffee grounds to the protective layer.
11. Two weeks after you have planted the grape vines you should add about 1 lb of nitrogen to each plant.
12. Grapes are very sensitive to 2,4-D pesticide which is used among farmers to control dandelions. If you use this anywhere near the grape vines you might find it impossible to get them to grow.
13. If you plan on growing many grape vines then a trellis system is a must. This will make it easier to harvest and to prune the grape vines.
