Plastic Septic Tanks May Be Right For You

There is nothing substantially different between the various septic tank types; they are only made for one thing, to hold and allow processing of septic effluent. However, there are advantages and disadvantages to each type of septic tank, which you should get to know so that you can make the best buying decision possible.

There are five main advantages to having a plastic septic tank. First, plastic septic tanks are resistant to many forms of damage because plastic is an inherently durable material that can hold up to a lot of abuse.

The second advantage is that plastic septic tanks are very light-weight and can be carried by a few contractors to the proper site on your property. Compare that to a concrete septic tank of the same size that requires a hydraulic crane to deliver the tank.

Thirdly, they are inexpensive when compared to concrete or cement septic tanks. This is because plastic tanks are easily and inexpensively manufactured.

The fourth advantage is that plastic septic tanks have no parts that could rust or corrode.

The fifth advantage is that plastic septic tanks will stay water-tight forever as long as they are treated properly and taken care of.

Advantages are always great to see, but I would not be doing a very good job if I did not mention the disadvantages as well.

The first disadvantage is that plastic septic tanks may float up in the ground if they are not installed properly. The floating up is a direct result of the light-weight of the plastic material.

The second disadvantage is that plastic septic tanks are not able to hold as much septic effluent as an equivalently sized concrete septic tank. There are two reasons for this, one is that plastic is not able to support as much weight as concrete (ever wonder why they don't build skyscrapers out of plastic?) and plastic septic tanks are usually cylinders. This means that they will have to be a substantially larger or longer than a concrete tank before they are able the same amount of septic effluent.

The third disadvantage is that plastic septic tanks are not permitted in all 50 states and many countries do not allow them yet either.

The fourth disadvantages I am going to discuss today is that plastic septic tanks can be damaged during installation if the installing contractor is not experienced with plastic tanks.

Plastic septic tanks are a great alternative if you do not want to spend the money on a concrete septic tanks. However, for the money you spend on a concrete septic tank you will be getting a much higher value and a septic tank that will probably last a lot longer.

Make sure that you make the best decision possible for your situation. The last thing you want to buy the wrong type of septic tank because that will cause a lot of headaches in the long run.
