Probably the most commonly asked questions in regards to the breast lift, or any surgical procedures for that matter, has to do with the recovery and the recovery time period. Like any surgical procedure, the recovery may be broken up into two groups; immediate and long term recovery periods. The immediate recovery period refers to that of the time period which immediately follows the surgery until the point in which the sutures are removed with the long term recovery period starting at that point. As for the breast lift, this initial recovery period should include a sufficient amount of rest to allow the body to heal itself after undergoing the trauma of the surgery. Lots of bed rest is prescribed during this period as it is suggested that any form of activity can lengthen the recovery period. This initial time period in important as the entire outcome of the procedure can be affected greatly during it.

For the first week or so, you may notice some swelling and discomfort especially in the nipples. This swelling, bruising and discomfort will go away in a week or so. In most cases it has all cleared up by the time the breast lift patient returns to the surgeon to have the sutures removed.

After this period has been completed, there is still a need to recover. As a matter of fact, when dealing with a breast lift it is suggested to avoid any type of strenuous activities for a period of at least three weeks following the actual surgery. This is asked as a means of preventing the possibility of any complications forming as well as to assist in the speedy recovery of any breast lift patient. That's what everyone wants is a speedy recovery, and to do that you must follow each and every suggestion your surgeon makes.

All in all, one can expect the full recovery period for the average breast lift to last about six months. The reason for this is there may be some nipple sensation changes which are associated with the procedure but in general the sensation will return to a normalized state within these 6 months following the breast lift surgery.
