What Are Platy Fish?
The platy is one of the livebearer group. These hardy colorful fish are a good choice for the new fish keeper and for the community aquarium owner.
Although able to be kept in a wide rnge of pH and hardness conditions the platy prefers hard water. Additional salt is also appreciated by this fish. Platies can be kept in outdoor ponds once acclimatized but prefer a tropical temperature over 24 degrees Celsius.
Feed platies on a general tropical flake. For best health supplement this weekly with come live or frozen food.
Breeding is almost inevitable. Female platies give birth to live young on a regular basis. One male platy is enough to service five or more females. Place lots of plants in the aquarium to provide cover fr the platies as they emerge. Feed the fry on crumbled flake and minced bloodworms.
