What Are Platy Fish?
Although able to be kept in a wide rnge of pH and hardness conditions the platy prefers hard water. Additional salt is also appreciated by this fish. Platies can be kept in outdoor ponds once acclimatized but prefer a tropical temperature over 24 degrees Celsius.
Feed platies on a general tropical flake. For best health supplement this weekly with come live or frozen food.
Breeding is almost inevitable. Female platies give birth to live young on a regular basis. One male platy is enough to service five or more females. Place lots of plants in the aquarium to provide cover fr the platies as they emerge. Feed the fry on crumbled flake and minced bloodworms.

A movie about tropical fish becoming parents! Platys are livebearer fish, which means female deliver live babies (fry). A day or two before she delivered, I put the expectant mother in a livebearer breeder trap. The babies fall through the slits in the floor and are safe from their mother's apetite! Then after a recovery time the mother is released back into the tank. Aren't those tiny fish cute?
