Important Steps To Learning Lead Guitar

Here are 3 important steps to learning lead guitar.

1. Practice - Practice a lot. What to practice? Practice and master a lot of scales and arpeggios as much as you can. Arpeggios are the sounding of chords in rapid succession instead of simultaneous. These are quite difficult but with practice you can master and be really good at these. These are important because these are the foundational aspects for all solo guitar. Work hard in learning scales and arpeggios in different ways and in different keys as well. If you can be good at these then you are not far from becoming a real lead guitarist.

2. Try - After you have mastered the scales and arpeggios try to jam along a few songs. It is much better to jam along your favorite songs as you are familiar how the songs go. Another method you can do is to record your self playing rhythm guitar and then after which try to play with it solo. You have to take note that when improvising it is more important to focus on notes and how they sound first. It is wiser to work on accuracy first then speed. To be familiar with the scales first will make it easier for you to find a good ending point to make it fluid. If you do this it is easier how to play lead guitar.

3. Finger dexterity - You have to give this attention and so you must do a lot of practice exercises to build finger dexterity. By doing this you will also improve the synchronization of the fret hand with the pick hand. These are not easy and fun exercises to practice, but will greatly help you improve in your speed and agility. These actually are good stuff for warming up before performances.
