Kids love to play doctor. They can reenact their last checkup, but pretend to be the doctor and administer a shot or medicine to a friend or parent. Playing doctor can help a child feel more comfortable when it is time to go for a check up. By pretending, children learn the importance of health, and that doctors want to help us feel our best. Playing doctor also helps young minds explore the possibility that one day they might become a doctor or a nurse too.

It is important to have toys around that encourage open-ended pretend play where your child gets to be imaginative. Doctor sets, and health care uniforms can provide the right setting for your child to decide what happens next.
You can encourage your child by telling him or her that you have an ear ache, and ask if there is some medicine you could take.
