A big plus for us, when it comes to Playmobil toys - be it the Playmobil Grande Mansion, a modern house, or the regular Playmobil dollhouse, is that they are not made in China. The recalls of millions of toys made in China that were painted with lead paint, and the recent recalls of Chinese made children's jewelry that had cadmium (a cancer causing metal) have really soured us on Chinese made toys. Fortunately, Playmobil toys are made in Europe, which in many ways has even higher toy safety standards than US.
I say fortunately, because I really like the design, the flexibility and the quality of the Playmobil toys. Some people were complaining that Playmobil doll house can come apart if you bump into them - well, yes, they likely will. These toys are not designed to have people bump into them. I have never had ours come apart unless we were doing major remodeling, and being careless at that. Frankly, I think it's a great feature. It teaches kids a certain level of finesse and care when dealing with toys. It rewards delicate and precise manipulation of objects. We have watched 2 and 3 year olds spend hours and hours playing with Playmobil dolls house and Playmobil modern and never noticed any problems that the kids could not fix themselves. And yes, for the record, those were not just our kids. Kids quickly figured out that they need to be more attentive and more deliberate than with, say, wooden blocks. So they quickly adjusted. Kids are a lot more flexible than adults - maybe that's the secret. In any case, the purpose of a toy is to give kids something to explore, something to challenge their own skills against, something that will let them see results of their work, and let their imagination run free. I think any Playmobile doll house will server that purpose admirably. And yes, I have spent many an hour myself playing around with those houses - they really are fun - try them.
