Remember Furby? Once banned from the National Security Agency Office. Furby will be a sock puppet compared to Pleo. Caleb Chung the creator of the Furby has a new wonder coming soon if you can get one. The Pleo is modeled after a week old Camarasaurus this miniature robot pet is clever enough to walk around and through the use of 30 sensors can avoid walls and falling off edges. Pleos realistic movements are created by 14 motors and there's a nose mounted camera for his "vision".

After receiving two Pleos yesterday (Dec 18,2007) my two girls (8 and 10) love them. The "birthing" and "hatchling" stages were amazing. The Pleos respond to touch and sound and seem very life-like. The skin itself is nice to touch. Both were "born" within a second of each other yet they "behave" differently and truly seem to interact with all three of us.

The only drawback we've see so far is battery life, but even that is well worth the wait and charges.

Pleo has a new update as of March 4, 2008. What the software does is encourage Pleo to explore the world a lot more and he should see more objects and better interact and navigate around them. Pleo will listen for sounds better and react to them.

My 4 year old has been pining for one of these for months. She loves it. We've only had it since Christmas but so far it has given her lots of entertainment. I agree with the other reviewers that the Mio Pup manufacturers should offer bone replacements. In all actuality, there's not much to the thing really. It talks, sings, and interacts with the child. It would be up to the individual child as to how much actual entertainment value Mio Pup brings them. But overall, it's a pleasing design, not so robotic looking as the last few years of electronic animals. Brilliant bit of marketing to design robots to appeal to females in what had previously been a male dominated toy field. My 4 year old now says she wants to grow up to be a "Mio Pup Designer". I would have given this toy a "5" if the manufacturer was kind enough to offer replacement parts. I gave Mio Pup a lower educational value rating because while the toy does foster imaginative play and memory (non-reading children must memorize the icons to know what the dog is feeling) it offers little else development wise.

Pleo Dinosaur is in production this month! Pleo Update Nov 24 

If you pre-ordered Pleo from a US store your baby dino wil arrive before December 10th!

Pleo preorders will be billed on Nov. 27th and we expect all First Hatch Pleos to arrive in their new homes before December 10.

You have been waiting so patiently for Pleo, and for that we are very grateful.
