What is Plerixafor?..

Plerixafor is a medicine that works by causing certain red blood cells to move from the bone marrow to the blood so that they can be collected and transplant. This medicine is an injection which is used along with a G-CSF (granulocyte-colony stimulating factor).G-CSF medicine such as Filgrastim or Pegfilgrastim to prepare the stem cells.

This Plerixafor injection will begin after you have received a G-CSF medication. There are some sides effects may be occurring because of this G-CSF injection. These side effects are not much common(less common) for patients.

Filgrastim is used to prevent or treat neutropenia, a condition characterized by low number of white blood cells.

Discomfort in the bones of your pelvis, back, arms or legs,

And your skin may become red and itchy around the area in which the injection is given,

And maybe you experience of fever and chills. Those effects occur by the injection G-CSF.

In the period you following this medication (Plerixafor) you should be get attention on followings,

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or you are breast feeding. If you are pregnant, this medicine can be harmful to your unborn baby. If you are planning to become pregnant you should use birth controls to prevent from pregnancy, because in studies pregnant animals have shown teratogenic(Able to disturb the growth and development) effects. If you are breast feeding in this period it will be harmful to your baby, because whether this injection passes in to breast milk. So you should not breast feed while you receiving this Plerixafor medication. Thus tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or you are breast feeding.

And you should not receive this medication if you are allergic to Plerixafor, Such as hives, difficult breathing swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat.

If you have or have ever had leukemia, abnormally higher number of neutrophils in your blood or you have or have ever had kidney diseases you should be able to make aware your doctor, because this injection can be harmful to you in this stage.

And if you are having surgery including dental don't forget to tell about that to your doctor or your dentist that you are receiving this injection, because this Stage also can be harmful to you.

There may be serious side effects such as case bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, feeling like you might pass out, or pain in stomach.

And there are some less serious sides effects may include such as nausea (feeling of sickness with inclination to vomit), diarrhea and local reactions were observed in over 10% of patients.

o And more than 1% patients found with dizziness, headache and muscular pains. And less than 1% of patients found with allergies.

o And also Plerixafor injection may cause sides effects like gas, dry mouth, Joint pains, itching and rashes. If you are overdose on Plerixafor cause stomach discomfort, severe dizziness or fainting. So you should seek emergency medical attention if you are overdose on Plerixafor.
