Golly, a Web 2.0 Package ... and it's free (at least for the moment).
"Hmmm, Pligg sounds like ... it sounds like .... DIGG". What an interesting similarity! I found a clone! :)
I was surfing around today and was submitting my website to various social networking sites. One thing led to another and I found my way into the world of Open Source (a place I love) and moreso found a piece of software called "PLIGG".
Pligg, a popular open source content management system that lets developers quickly create Digg-like clones. With this in mind, I have set about creating my own social networking site called "My Personal Discovery". The concept behind the name has to do with idea of "discovering" sites on the web.
It would be my wish that people would choose to share their sites on mine and enjoy the networking experience.
Pligg Plexo
I like the sound of Pligg Plexo -- if you have a Pligg resource to add. Add away! Thanks!!

Web 2.0 is a term describing changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, information sharing, and collaboration among users. These concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. The term became notable after the first O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004.
Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users utilize the Web. According to Tim O'Reilly:
Some technology experts, notably Tim Berners-Lee, have questioned whether one can use the term in any meaningful way, since many of the technology components of "Web 2.0" have existed since the early days of the Web.
Open Source / GNU
Open source is a development methodology, which offers practical accessibility to a product's source (goods and knowledge). Some consider open source as one of various possible design approaches, while others consider it a critical strategic element of their operations. Before open source became widely adopted, developers and producers used a variety of phrases to describe the concept; the term open source gained popularity with the rise of the Internet, which provided access to diverse production models, communication paths, and interactive communities.
The open source model of operation and decision making allows concurrent input of different agendas, approaches and priorities, and differs from the more closed, centralized models of development.Raymond, Eric S. The Cathedral and the Bazaar. ed 3.0. 2000. The principles and practices are commonly applied to the development of source code for software that is made available for public collaboration, and it is usually released as open-source software.

My Personal Discovery - My Own Incarnation of Pligg
It was fun to download the Pligg package, install it, build the database and do all of the little tweaks that are common to Open Source software. Documentation is typically quite scarce but forums are usually bustling with developers and novices alike looking for tweaks, hacks and answers. My incarnation of Pligg is a website called My Personal Discovery (this was a domain I had in my arsenal and it seemed like a good use for it). Half of the fun was building the site -- now comes the more difficult issue of driving traffic. I've already got ideas.
Come and Pligg and add your sites and stories -- and download the chicklet, add it to your site with the link http://www.mypersonaldiscovery.com

Do what is so common in Web 2.0 ... spread the word. :)
