Plot Bunny Generators and Adoption Centre

Do you need a plot? Look no further!

What you need, dear author, is a Plot Bunny. These magical creatures will help you on your quest to write a novel, a short story, anything you want to write that requires an actual storyline. Sometimes, they can be elusive, sometimes they mob you unexpectedly. Always, always, they breed like the creatures they are named for.

They are just what every aspiring author needs, but they must also be treated with respect, or they will turn against you. And that is the last thing you want.

If you think you're ready to take on one of these majestic, mischievous creatures, read on for information on adopting your very own Plot Bunny!

What is a Plot Bunny?

A Plot Bunny is the term some groups of writers give to the little ideas that start off big stories. Bunnies are not quite 'inspiration' - they're a little more developed than that, but they're also not a completed plot.

When you write a lot, and these creatures start coming to you in droves, begging for chocolate (the preferred diet of the Plot Bunny consists largely of junk food), and you feel a potentially confusing but irresistible urge to write exactly what they're telling you to. Some of them won't let you rest until you've done it, others are more subtle, working themselves into what ever you're supposed to be writing, or thinking about.

However, properly trained and cared for, they can be invaluable companions. Or scapegoats.

Need More than just a Plot?

Character Names? Place Names?

Seventh Sanctum has a bunch of serious and not-so-serious generators for whole plots, character and place names, organisations, superheroes, villains and more! If you haven't found a cute little Bunny to take home and care for and write until your fingers bleed, then consider this a good petshop to get one from - completely free, of course.

Offer Your Plot Bunny For Adoption

If you've picked up a Bunny somewhere you'll never have the time or inclination to write, why not drop it off here (where it will be fed nothing but finest Belgian chocolate and hand-cut potato chips), and wait for someone else to pick it up? That way, the Bunny's happy, you're happy, and someone else has a story to write.

If you're doing NaNoWriMo (and all writers should be, it's good for you), this might just be the perfect place to drop everything but your novel off for the month of November!

Plot bunnies are great but mine tends to sleep a lot of the time particularly when I need her. She is a sweetheart though and helped me with a creative piece I done for valentines day, maybe you could take a look, it's one of my lenses.

I have a growing problem. My first plotbunnies, Energizer and Thumper, are turning the other FIFTY-EIGHT against me to eat my brain. Could you take the ringleaders' followers off my hands. I understand if you lack the junk food to feed them though. I've been starving them because I can't produce enough. I'm quite starved, myself. Energizer and Thumper are being restrained. The others are violently protesting throughout my head. It hurts. Help me. Writer Abuse!

I would like to leave my little tiny plot bunny with you. She is very quiet and has not said much yet. I'm hoping if you care for her over the holidays, with lots of good Belgium chocolate, she will come back to me fat and sassy with the courage to give me her thoughts.

Thanks so much!

How often do You pick up a Bunny?

I have my Bunny, now what?

A Plot Bunny Celebrating it's Adoption! You write it, of course! You do know how to do that, don't you? Of course you do - if you can read, you can write! But what if you need a little help along the way, getting and staying motivated? Well, there's hundreds of other people just like you! Here are some thoughts on getting your idea on to paper:

- If you haven't already done so, go sign up for NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month (for every nation, of course!). The idea is to write 50,000 words in 30 days - that's just over 1,600 a day, which isn't all that much, is it? You'll have plenty of people to cheer you on, don't worry.

- If you're more the 'flying solo' type, check out the awesome Write or Die widget by Dr. Wicked. Does (almost) exactly what it says on the tin! This is a great tool to get you putting words to paper (or screen, rather).

What will you name your Bunny?

I know of Bunnies called Alphonse, Cartwright, George, and some things I'm not allowed to say on a family webpage. But what name will you give the new addition to your family? (And believe me, it's to the whole family - you won't be able to stop talking about the little creature once you pick it up!)

Excellent page about that most elusive of creatures the plot bunny. I have a whole passel of them, and now they're even starting out a whole new breed--squid bunnies! Funny looking little things that just keep multiplying. So note to self: must type faster...

I find that plot bunnies multiply so fast that I have a hard time naming them. They are all equally cute that I also have a hard time managing them. Sometimes I have to just grab one and take it somewhere where there are no other plot bunnies so I can see what makes it special. It doesn't matter which one I grab. They are all special. Excellent lens.
