Hm, I grew up in New England (Rhode Island) and I hadn't heard about this place. This looks like a good resource for all things P.I. *Blessed by an angel on the Back to School Bus Tour*

I drove to Plum Island and Newburyport from Boston just for the day. It was a nice secluded spot. And remember they mentioned Plum Island in Silence of the Lambs as a spot where Hannibal Lector could go if he gave up info. Bahhhaahhha.
  • Christene Jun 14, 2011 @ 5:14 pm | delete
Ack, no the mention in Silence of the Lambs is not this Plum Island. The Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center is in New York.

What a delightful place to visit. I had not heard of it before. It is now on my list of places to visit in the USA.
  • Greekgeek Jan 23, 2011 @ 8:07 pm | delete
Hello, Christene. I just saw your introduction in the newbie forum, and I think this has great potential as a first lens. I predict that you're going to do very well on Squidoo. :D

(Sorry to be silly, I was just poking through the Introduction Forum trying to find some newbies and/or oldies who had never received LOTD to nominate, and couldn't help clicking on your first post!)
  • Christene Jan 23, 2011 @ 9:02 pm | delete
I read your comment in my email first and it doesn't say who posted. I was so confused until I saw it was from you. LOL

My BF is coming up from No Carolina this upcoming weekend..we thought of PI & I found this sight. Well, we'll be heading up on Friday after leaving Logan..what a wonderful sight. Thanks very much!

Thank you for submitting this lens to All 50 States.

Plum Island is a wonderful place to bird watch. The park rangers offer free bird watch talks. It is one of my favorite places in the world. Peaceful, quiet and serene most of the year.
  • BRianLee Jul 8, 2009 @ 6:20 am | delete
The best place in MA to vacation, better beaches than the cape and none of the traffic. It has everything you could possibly want in a beach town. I will continue to plunk down my hard-earned cash every year for the privilege of staying there.
  • kiwisoutback Jun 30, 2009 @ 6:01 pm | delete
I just linked to this lens on my New England road trip lens. There are actually some Snowy Owls that migrate to Plum Island during the winter just about yearly.

I've already got it on the lens. ;) It's the first listing under "They don't have a webpage". It's called Plum Crazy now.

Yup--great place! My family moved there in 1974, and mom still lives there. My kids just spent their April school vacation there--and our street is paved now, so they could ride their bikes! You need to add PJs --- or whatever they are calling it now. A store, mid-island that was a landmark forever, then closed for a few years, recently reopened--renamed, but EVERYONE will call it PJs!

Great lens. My mom used to have a house right on the beach at the beginning of the main drag. I loved going there, especially being next door to some nuns that were always enjoying a few cocktails! I wish my mom never sold the place!

Thx for the memories ... I lived in NBPT on Market Sq for a year and PI was my favorite spot to unwind and visit the sea. Rode my bike out to avoid parking issues, but also loved to go to the National Seashore park in dead of winter to watch bald eagles. Greenheads make you tough!

Gotta ask, because it's been year since I read the book -- is this the Plum Island in Nelson Demille's mystery novel? LOL!

I'm new here, just made my first lens, Top Gear for Overnight Hiking Trips. I'd appreciate you taking a look!

It still has some bugs in it, e.g. there is no JOIN button (Squidoo Support is working on it) so you have to leave me a blurb in the guestbook and I will add you manually.
