Women's Plus Size Clothing and Lingerie

Ranked #19,811 in Entertainment, #218,661 overall

The variety of choices in plus size women's dresses and sexy lingerie has increased significantly in recent years (a list of good shopping sites follows this discussion). Be careful however as some styles make you look slimmer while others emphasis the negative.

You must determine which looks make you look your slimmest and stay away from any "today" looks and fads that don't flatter you. Use these guidelines to help you will choose dresses and outfits that help, not hinder.

Dark Colors
Black and any other dark colors such as navy, burgundy, and chocolate brown can help create a thinner look. When shopping for plus size women's dresses, look for styles in deep, rich shades. Use bright colors sparingly in your accessories like handbags, scarves, and shoes.

The Right Shape
Lenthen your body. Create a vertical line by using a classic sheath dress that lengthens and slims, particularly for women with larger waists and hips. If you are bosomy or have broad shoulders, look for dresses that have slightly flared skirts. High heels always add additional length to the vertical line you are trying to create.

Natural Fabrics
Avoid clingy fabrics like rayon and polyester and use natural fabrics, such as cotton, silk, and wool. The latter not only create a more sophisticated look, they are also more slimming. Natural fabrics breathe and are even more durable when properly maintained.

Avoid Bias-Cut Dresses
Very few women can get away with a clingy bias-cut slip dress. Avoid this trendy style and use your clothing budget on a more figure-friendly look.

Be Careful Where You Draw Attention
The eye is naturally drawn to contrast, shape, and shine. If you wear a dress with ruffles around the neckline, your beholder's eye will be drawn to your neckline. Keep this in mind, in particular, when wanting to minimize certain areas. A large bow on your hip might be calling attention to something you would rather they not notice.

Solids and Patterns
In general, solid colors look more slimming than prints. If you feel you have to have some prints, look for small checks, plaids, or paterns. Use vertical stripes, not horizontal ones.
