The Plus Size Lifestyle

It is a fact of life - the average woman today weighs 164 pounds. It is also a fact of life that many clothing designers refuse to cater to the plus size woman, either due to the cost of goods or the fact that it just isn't "good for their image." The fact remains that a very large portion of the population is considered plus size, even though they may be trim and fit. America today is obsessed with skinny little girls that have no sex appeal whatsoever, and it is an unnatural point of view considering the average size of women today.

This lens is all about plus size women, whether a size 12 or a 4X. Our hope is to bring information and resources to the many full figured women out there that need a friendly place to go.

On Being Full Figured and Wanting Trendy Plus Sized Clothing

The plus size woman today is the Marilyn Monroe
and Gina Lollobrigida of yesterday. In America, we no
longer recognize the full figured beauty of someone
like Marilyn, who was a size 16. Nowadays, we
worship the size zero figure, and no longer recognize a full
figured woman as a thing of beauty. Women
agonize over every ounce of weight on their body, and feel
that they do not have a complete figure unless they are
nearly transparent and need to carry rocks in their
pockets when the wind reaches over 5 miles per
hour.

Plus size clothing is often relegated to the lower level or
basement of the finer department stores. The plus sized shopper
is greeted haughtily by svelte young women, perfectly groomed and
coiffed, and wearing a size two slinky little black dress.
trendy clothes are often hard to find for the full figured woman. Many
women with a full figure and wishing to buy fancy
lingerie are resigned to the offerings of fashion
designers such as Delta Burke. Very few clothing
stores are themed around the full figured woman,
and those that are offer little in the line of trendy
fashions.

This attitude in America can best be defined by the
Duchess of Windsor, who said "You can never be too
rich, or too thin." The stigma of having curves
today is often defined by the fashion industry as
shapeless sacks and muu-muus, and clothing that
does not flatter the woman who has the
"disadvantage" of being full figured. My wife, who
successfully runs Bella Grande in a small town in
mid Michigan, sells plus size clothing exclusively for
women size 12 and up. She is complimented by
many customers for offering this line of plus size
clothing in an atmosphere that is both fashionable
and high on customer service. She does remarkedly
well in this niche. To a man such as myself, the
women I see come into her store are not what I
consider plus size, with few exceptions.

Plus sized clothing for the full figured woman needs
to come out of the closet. Women of today need to
stop agonizing over the fact that they may be considered full
figured, even though a size 10, and must be able to purchase
clothing in stores that are both inviting and is a comfortable
setting. It is pathetic to know that a woman wearing a size 16,
such as Marilyn Monroe was, is now considered to be in the XL
category of plus size clothing. My wife has also explained to
me that sizes today i
