Unsure If You Have PMS or PMDD?
PMS and PMDD are definitely a linked condition, but many women upon feeling the terrible effects that might be PMDD are still unsure if they have this disorder, or if they simply suffer from a very bad case of PMS?
PMS Vs PMDD is a debate that has been happening for a long time also because only recently has it been officially added to a list of possible psychological conditions that we humans suffer from. Before that, psychologists and medical professionals were split on calling this a separate condition or just labelling it as bad PMS.
This left a lot of women feeling very insecure about how bad their PMS was, and left a lot of doctors not fully realising how damaging PMDD really is and underestimating the impacts.
In this lens we will look at both separately and draw a conclusion from it.

What is PMS?
Everyone knows something of PMS, it is something that has been with us forever, a state of hormonal change at the end of the menstrual cycle that has been the but of many jokes for centuries I would imagine. It is the underlying cause of many insights of why men especially believe women to be changeable and capricious as a base part of their nature.
Yet we all know that women suffer form this to greater and lesser degrees, and in fact that each month might be a totally different outcome for some women too. One month you might be a little irritable and annoyed by things that usually would not both you, then next you might start crying for no reason you might imagine and yelling!
The reasons for this are all hormonal, the female body is no way near as stable as men's bodies hormone wise because of the reproductive system we carry that gives us our hated and loves menstrual cycle. The shift in hormones at the end of the menstrual cycle can lead to many symptoms in your physical being and your emotional psyche as well.
This is then further enhanced or decreased by your current state of mind, stress levels, general health and other things. It is a complex mess that basically we learn to deal with as does everyone around us.

What is PMDD?
PMDD is a different kettle of fish not because of the differenced between it and PMS, but because of the intensity of these things and the length of time you have to suffer it.
If you have a very bad PMS month once in a while it is not PMDD for instance, you might have all the symptoms of PMDD but it is not a continual disorder. PMDD sufferers have this continuously, or at least on a regular basis with only some months bringing some reprieve.
The intensity of the symptoms are the biggest difference. With PMS you might get irritable, but with PMDD you might become totally irrational, angry and have outbursts. If you get a bit sad and teary with PMS, then PMDD can lend itself to full blown depression! Cramping is not uncommon with PMS, but with PMDD is can become absolute anguish.
The last real difference is the number of symptoms. The more f these you have the more likely it is that you have PMDD, but the mood disorders are the ones that really define it.
So what is PMDD? Continuous PMS on steroids is how one friend described it to me and this might be true.

How to Cure PMDD and PMS
So the real question most of you might be asking is how to cure PMDD ... or PMS if it is bad enough if they both come from the same root causes just to different degrees. Good question, and the answer is not in the form of a cure all pill because they do not ever, ever exist! You can stop the symptoms of PMDD by normalising your hormone levels as best as you can. You may never get rid of your genetic disposition towards PMDD but you can squash the chances of it happening with some lifestyle changes, a holistic outlook on this topic, and some dedication and motivation towards change.

- It can vary but for most women who have experienced both the difference is enormous and very painful. PMDD is very much worse thanmost cases of PMS.
