PMS Cravings - It's Not All in Your Head

For many women, PMS is more than just the prequel to "that time of month."

It's a time when bags of chips go flying off store shelves and boxes of cupcakes get shoved into grocery carts!

PMS cravings can make a sane woman lose it even on the best of days.  In addition to crying at the Kenmore commercials (no, it doesn't make any sense), yelling at the kids (they start calling you Mommy Dearest), PMS cravings are just another symptom to plague you for a few days to a week once a month.

Many women suffer from physical and emotional symptoms.  Hormones are all over the place, causing us to react to the changes in our bodies.  With PMS food cravings, it can wreak havoc on the strides you make the rest of the month toward eating healthy and trying to feed your body nutritious food.

Wouldn't you like to be able to endure PMS without having to feel guilty about the food cravings and weight gain that occurs during this time?  The most requested food craving women having during PMS? Chocolate!

The chemicals in your body are telling you that it needs serotonin, so junk food is one way to quickly deliver, since carbs help create serotonin. You're about to learn how to stave off PMS cravings without piling on the food when it's almost that time of the month.

The Truth About Chocolate...

Don't Allow Your Body to Be Out of Control!

Whenever you give into your PMS cravings, you might be giving you spirits a little lift, but it will quickly subside as your sugar levels return to normal. This rollercoaster of nutrition sends your body into rapid bouts of hunger.

Instead of feeding your PMS cravings with sugar and fat, you can learn how to start craving foods that help your body during this tumultuous time, like grains, beans, and healthy meats.

Experts have various ideas of how you can control PMS cravings.

Some feel that eating six mini meals each day to stabilize blood sugar levels helps quash cravings.

Others believe that you can tame your cravings by learning how to look at food differently - a feat most of us wish we could do during non-PMS times as well!

Some researchers have found that a combination of calcium and magnesium squelches chocolate cravings during PMS. This perfect combination also seems to ease other PMS symptoms as well.

Once you're able to get a handle on your PMS cravings, you'll notice that your body feels better during this time. You won't gain weight that's permanent, your sluggishness won't show up at inopportune times, and you might not have the headaches that commonly affect women during PMS.

Article on premenstrual syndrome, by Wikipedia

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) (also called PMT or premenstrual tension) is a collection of physical, psychological, and emotional symptoms related to a woman's menstrual cycle. While most women (about 80 percent) of child-bearing age have some symptoms of PMS, the official definition limits the scope to having symptoms of "sufficient severity to interfere with some aspects of life". Such symptoms are usually predictable and occur regularly during the two weeks prior to menses. Generally, symptoms may vanish both before or after the start of menstrual flow.

While some experts claim that virtually all menstruating women experience PMS, a more recent and intermediate position shows that only a small percentage of women (2 to 5%) have significant premenstrual symptoms that are separate from the discomfort associated with menstruation.Matlin, Margaret W., The Psychology of Women: Sixth Edition 2008.

Culturally, the abbreviation PMS is widely understood in the United States (and other countries, for example Australia) to refer to difficulties associated with menses, and the abbreviation is used frequently even in casual and colloquial settings, without regard to medical rigor. In these contexts, the syndrome is rarely referred to without abbreviation, and the connotations of the reference are frequently more broad than the clinical definition.
