Shopping Tips
2. If possible, shop from a list. Note brand, size, flavor, or color choices on list to keep decision-making more efficient.
3. If shopping with little ones, especially toddlers, remember that every child seems to grow extra hands and produce more pent-up energy when on a shopping trip. If possible, have them fed, rested, and finished with potty needs before the shopping trip. Also take along a favorite toy to interest them.
4. Children, over the age of 4 or 5 can be helpful. You can use this as a teaching opportunity. Give a choice of two equally acceptable items. Praise them for each choice they make. Let them play add-the-price of the items. Good practice for their math skills and for living skills.
5. When shopping for clothing, be sure to select your natural size. Don't try to stuff yourself into a size smaller than you should wear, or try to "hide" in over-sized garments. It will only make you feel worse about yourself. If you are your perfect weight and size, be happy and enjoy it while you have it. It the color or style is not right for you, DON'T get it.
6. Choose colors that will contrast with your other items, whether clothing or home accessories. If it clashes with other things, you will feel dissatisfied about it later.
7. Know when to say "no". You will thank yourself, and you will have time, money and interest in making more wise purchases another time.
8. If the item you purchased is damaged, grab the sales receipt and return it the next day. If you delay, you are less apt to return the item.
9. To curb your on-line impulse-buying - Just don't look. What you don't see, you are not likely to want or buy.
10. On big items - electronics, security systems, pools, etc. do not make decisions on these when tired or stressed. Do your homework and know the features you want, and don't be pushed into a model with more bells and whistles than you really want or need.
It's not just about saving money, or getting your shopping "fix". It's about Making choices you can live with.
