Digital Cameras have come a long way Baby!

I can remember sitting in a snack bar at a Camera and Film trade show in Las Vegas. The time period was the mid-eighties and Fuji, Kodak, and other film manufacturers were introducing the concept of cameras that did not use film. I was eavesdropping on a group of attendees sitting quite close to me. The group, whose very livelihood depended on people bringing film into their stores for developing, and then buying more film to take more pictures to be developed, were very skeptical. There expressions of skepticism ranged from "the public will never accept the idea of not having film in their camera" to "how could anyone possibly expect a digital image to be as true to the original as high quality film". I left that day wondering what the future would hold for film and camera companies.

Flash forward twenty five years...Digital cameras have come a very long way baby! People are taking pictures at a rate never before seen in history. Cameras are an essential part of every cell phone sold today. And cell phones not only take pictures, they also take pretty good quality video, with sound. Those pictures and movies can then, be instantly sent to someone else over the internet. Wow! Those skeptics in the snack bar were wrong. Digital quality is good and people love their digital cameras.

Interestingly enough, the business strategy of the industry hasn't really changed that much over the years. They produced very low cost, easy to use cameras then. And they still produce very low cost, easy to use cameras. The range of cameras available pre-digital hasn't really changed very much. We can go into the local drug store and buy a disposal camera that we use once and dispose of, or we can go into very high end camera shops and buy very expensive equipment geared to the professional. And in between, we have the wide range of stores that provide cameras for the masses. We have digital point and click that can fit into a shirt pocket and we have digital SLR that is a bit larger and has a lot more features.

Once a person makes a decision about what type of photographer they'd like to be, or what their picture taking needs are, they can be sure that there is a camera designed perfectly for them. The guys sitting in the snack bar along side the Fuji Film exhibit those many years ago were wrong. Digital cameras can take high quality pictures and people love the idea of not having to get film developed.

Canon PowerShot Digital Cameras

PowerShot SX20IS

Canon PowerShot SX20ISEasy! Easy! Easy! If there was ever a point and shoot digital camera that was easy to use, this is it. The Smart Auto feature makes taking pictures as easy as pointing toward the picture you want to save and clicking the button. Nothing, absolutely nothing could be easier. But on top of the ease of use, you get a really great camera. It's got a 10X zoom that lets you get up close and personal with the camera when you just can't get physically close to your subject. Ever had the shakes? No problem for this camera. It's got a fantastic Optical Image Stabilizer that makes all of your pictures sharp and clear, no matter what condition you may be in.

But wait! That's not all! This package includes a huge list of included accessories that are almost always "add on's" with all of the competition. To name just a few...8 gig SD memory card; 4 AA high capacity rechargable batteries; an AC/DC Rapid battery charger (you can recharge these batteries either in your home or in your car). I could go on and on but it also includes a high quality carrying case with pockets for the accessories and a strap to throw over your shoulder. It's also got cleaning materials to protect the lens. Even a flexible mini-tripod so you can put the camera on delayed click and manage to get into the picture.

Kodak EasyShare C180 10.2MP Digital Camera

with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.4 inch LCD - Red

Kodak EasyShare C180 10.2MP Digital CameraKodak has always been a name you could trust, but they have not been at the front of the line when people think of camera manufacturers. That may be changing now. They have really built a very good, inexpensive camera that people may want to look at as a gift for a younger person or as a second camera for themselves. While not jam packed with some of the high end features of some of the more expensive cameras its certainly got the basics to insure that you are going to consistantly get great pictures. 10.2 megapixel, 3X zoom, and easy to look at 2.4 in LCD viewer. What more could you want in a camera selling for less than $100?
The reviewers on Amazon have given it 4 out of 5 stars. Just check out this one. 5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Entry-Level Camera, July 5, 2009
By amazonaddict
This camera is incredibly easy to use, but offers enough advanced features for the average point-and-shoot user. I bought the camera for my older parents who needed a simple camera. I was choosing between the Kodak M1033 and this camera, but decided to go with this camera because it is slightly easier to use. Kodak describes the C series as a line of easy entry-level cameras, and that's definitely true.

PROS:
- Easy for first-time digital camera users
- Large LCD screen
- Large amount of megapixels
- Many "scene" settings pre-programmed for different types of shots
- Very low price
- Compact size
- Plug and play sharing via EasyShare

CONS:
- No viewfinder
- M1033 has a couple extra features (i.e., panoramic stitching)
- Uses AA batteries vs. charger (although this is mitigated by a good set of rechargeable batteries

Buy this camera if you're looking for an affordable, compact, easy to use camera. It will meet the needs of most point-and-shoot users. Do not buy this camera if you're looking to customize your shots beyond pre-programmed settings (i.e., adjustments in ISO, f-stop, shutter speed, etc.), but that should be self-evident, as this is a point-and-shoot.

Had a tough night and a little shaky today. This little baby has built in picture stabilization. Blur caused by shaky hands is now a thing of the past.

Olympus Digital Camera Review

Olympus Stylus 7010

Olympus Stylus 7010If you have been looking for a small but powerful point and shoot digital camera, look no further. The Stylus 7010 is the new standard for simple to use, but full of power cameras on the market today.

Features like it's "intelligent auto function" can identify the scene you're shooting and adjust the settings to make sure that you get a perfect shot. So what, you say! What if that scene were nightime, or landscape, or an upclose portrait, or a moving sport? And your camera figured out what it was you were shooting and adjusted the setting to optimize the picture. Then you wouldn't be so quick to say "so what". Well, that's only one of the many things this litttle beauty can do. It's 7X zoom can let you take pictures very up close and personal and it's wide-angle lens will let you shoot pictures of large groups of people or other large scenes.

How about a 2.7 inch HyperCrystal II LCD screen that makes it a piece of cake to check out your images even in bright sunlight. Want more? The 12 megapixel inage sensor will give you sharp vivid images that you can blow up to poster size without losing the smallest bit of detail.

This is a true point and shoot camera. Turn the camera on. The lens guard immediately moves out of the way, after it's done its job of keeping your lens operating room clean and free from fingerprints and dust. You are now ready to take a picture. Pick your subject and let the camera select the best shutter speed, the ISO, white balance, flash or no flash, etc. Just point and shoot and let the camera do the work for you producing high resolution perfectly photographed images.

Want movies instead of stills? Select "movie" from the control panel, press the shutter and you are taking movies. Nothing could be easier. And then when you've finished for the day, the USB cable lets you connect to your computer (PC or Mac) to view your work on your computer monitor.

This is a great camera that is full of high end features at a very affordable price.

Pentax Optio Review

Pentax Optio E80

Pentax Optio E80If you are a beginner to the world of digital photography, the Optio E70 may be the perfect camera for you. It's got really big controls that are very easy to use. It's small size lets it slip into a pocket or purse with little effort. But, it's ease of use belies how very powerful it is. It's got a high resolutio widescreen video capture that takes 15 frames with sound. The 10 megs allows you to blow your pictures up to a very large size without losing the sharpness your want. It's also got a 3X zoom that lets you get "up close and personal" with your subjects. A really amazing feature is the built in Face Detection. I don't know how they do it but this little baby can tell when the subject is a person and make all of the necessary adjustments to insure that their face is shot perfectly. Talk about WOW! If you are new to picture taking and are looking for an affordable camera that's easy to use AND...takes great pictures, the Pentax E80 should certainly be on your list of considerations.

The Samsung Sensation!

Samsung Tl225 Dualview

The Samsung Tl225 Dualview 12.2mp camera is definitely one of those "I wish I would have thought of that" cameras. We've all tried to take self portraits or pictures together with a friend. It usually works something like squeezing as close together as possible, holding the camera at arms length, and hoping that you managed to get yourself fairly centered in the picture. And like most of us, you probably didn't. Samsung has solved the problem. They put a viewing screen on the back and FRONT of the camera. Duh! Why didn't I think of that?

Now you can still squeeze together and hold the camera at arms length but you'll be able to see exactly what your picture is going to look like before you click the shutter.

And if that weren't enough to make you run out to buy this camera, it's loaded with other features that enhance it's value. To start, it's got a 12.2 meg resolution. That means that poster sized pictures will be crisp and clear into the outer edges. It's got a wide angle lens that can help bring in those wide panaramas into a managable picture. And then it's loaded with extra accessories that you'd normally have to buy to complete your camera purchase. It comes standard with an 8 gig SD memory card; a protective case to store and carry your camera; a package of LCD screen protectors and a cleaning and care kit. Then, just in case you wanted that picture of youself and a few friends, it's got a very cool mini tripod that will hold your camera while you put it on delayed shoot and run back to you laughing bunch of friends.

But wait! Samsung also includes a promo code that allow you to take your memory card to the local print kiosk and get 25, count 'em, 25 high quality prints for free.
