Pointe Shoes Are Not for Pansies
Years of study, exercise, and ankle strengthening were required before taking my daughter to buy her first pair of pointe shoes. The first time I saw her rise up confidently on her toes was unforgettable for me. The lines and extension of her body reminded me of a tall willowy tree. And the illusion of weightlessness . . . . as an artist I was hooked.Over the years I have acquired huge respect for the discipline, and the athletic ability behind what you can see on stage or on the dance floor. The strength required is often hugely underestimated. Dancers cannot show their sweat or pain as football players do. A dancer must conceal any sign of pain or exertion and make it look effortless.
A Pointe Shoe Still Life Just for You
Pointe shoes and ballet slippers can be stunning subjects for a painting. Many of my pointe shoe paintings are 5 X 7 inches and fit into a standard 5 x 7 frame or 8 x 10 frame. However you can order your pointe shoe painting in whatever size or color scheme that works for you.

I always loved the Edgar Degas painting of the Dance Class. Dance and painting go so well together. You do beautiful work!

Ah, pointe shoes make beautiful art -- looking forward to seeing more of this type of art. I studied ballet, but pointe was very difficult for me. My sister though excelled at it and was a beautifully talented ballerina.

My daughter is going en pointe next year. I look forward to it with a mixture of excitement and fear! She has been dancing for 7 years and I know she has been well prepared though. You are right that the skill and strength needed is underestimated - it just looks so effortless - people don't see the work and the pain behind it.....

They're so beautiful! I like the simplicity of them, yet they have an energy like they would dance right off the painting. :)
