As an artist, many of my paintings are devoted to the beauty of ballet! I have tremendous respect for dancers and for what can be expressed on the dance floor. I watch dancers in class and at rehearsal several times a week. And when the muse of ballet is with me - the beauty of it flows right through my brush.
Years of study, exercise, and ankle strengthening were required before taking my daughter to buy her first pair of pointe shoes. The first time I saw her rise up confidently on her toes was unforgettable for me. The lines and extension of her body reminded me of a tall willowy tree. And the illusion of weightlessness . . . . as an artist I was hooked.
Pointe shoes and ballet slippers can be stunning subjects for a painting. Many of my pointe shoe paintings are 5 X 7 inches and fit into a standard 5 x 7 frame or 8 x 10 frame.
Celebrate your accomplishments as a dancer with a painting of your own ballet slippers or pointe shoes. They may be your first pair of pointe shoes, or those from a memorable performance.

They're so beautiful! I like the simplicity of them, yet they have an energy like they would dance right off the painting. :) Posted July 22, 2008 |
Very nice, Trish, and remember your beautiful daughter, too!
