Great Polar Bear Movies And Books

Here you'll find books and movies about polar bears: book and movie reviews, movie previews and trailers, videos, photos, movie posters and links to other great polar bear sites. I love polar bears, so I'll watch and read then review and rate each book/movie. You'll also see how others rate them and you'll have a chance to add your own reviews.

There will also be original cartoons by David Booth of Cabin Fever Art.

I'll start with The Golden Compass and add other polar bear books and movies so come back often and join me in watching and reading about these magnificent creatures.

Klondike and Snow

True Story of the first polar bear cubs raised by hand.

Klondike & Snow

Raising 2 Polar Bear Cubs

This is one of my favorite books from my library. It's about the Denver Zoo and their raising of 2 polar bear cubs named Klondike and Snow.

The cubs were born on November 6, 1994 and rejected by their mother. They were taken to the Zoo's hospital and the staff raised them.

I read it and look at the pictures again every couple of months. The pictures are just amazing and the stories that go with them are so much fun.

I learned all sorts of things like their tongues are so large when they are small cubs that they can hardly keep them in their mouths (really!).

And they also like sleeping on their backs, but when they are really young, they can't turn themselves back over so they yell and yell until someone helps them. What a great mental image -- of course the book has pictures of them on their backs.

I rate this 5 Stars!!!

Klondike and Snow teach math to kids

Polar Bear Math: Learning About Fractions from Klondike and Snow

Amazon Price: $7.99 (as of 10/13/2008)

When Klondike and Snow were abandoned by their mother, zookeepers were very concerned about their health. Zoo workers knew polar bears needed special milk but they did not know what the perfect formula was. They experimented with different fractions of milk ingredients. In this book, the reader learns about fractions by the different percentages of ingredients in the bears' milk as they grow.

The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a Warming World

The Last Polar Bear: Facing the Tructh of a Warming World

This latest book is fabulous. The author, Steven Kazlowski, has spent 13 years photographing polar bears along Alaska's Arctic coast. He spent the last 9 of them putting together photos for this book. The book is phenomenal as is his photos. Here's one:

wow! If this photo doesn't get you to read the book I don't know what will!

Polar Bears International

Saving Polar Bears Through Research And Education

I am so happy to have found Polar Bears International (PBI), a non-profit "dedicated to understanding and communicating all points of view on issues affecting polar bears throughout the world and conservation through research and education."

A few of their programs include: The Conference Classroom, where field scientist teach live classes from the tundra via Web casts; a Leadership Camp for high school students from around the world who travel to Churchill, Manitoba to study; a Polar Bear Camp at Gordon Point near Churchill; and several guest lecturer series. PBI also have the most comprehensive website on polar bears anywhere.

National Wildlife Federation

Helping Save Polar Bears

When I discovered the problems facing polar bears, I looked for an organization that I could work with to help save them. I found the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). Their mission is to protect wildlife for our children's future, connect people with nature and to confront global warming.

I am proud to be a member of NWF and to support them in their efforts to save Polar Bears and other animals from extinction.

The NWF is helping to lead a nationwide grassroots effort to protect the Arctic Refuge. For more information on this click NWF-Arctic Refuge. Or, for membership information, click NWF Membership.

The World of the Polar Bear

One of my most favorite books

The World of the Polar Bear

Amazon Price: $29.70 (as of 10/13/2008)

This is one of my favorite books on polar bears. Rosing brings polar bears to life with his absolutely stunning photographs -- many of which has inspired my sculptures -- and the writing is only surpassed IMHO by the photos. It is extremely well written and informative. I will read it again and again. A must have book for any lover of polar bears.
