Polar Bear Book and movie reviews

Here you'll find books and movies about polar bears: book and movie reviews, movie previews and trailers, videos, photos, movie posters and links to other great polar bear sites. I love polar bears, so I'll watch and read then review and rate each book/movie. You'll also see how others rate them and you'll have a chance to add your own reviews.

There will also be original cartoons by David Booth of Cabin Fever Art.

I'll start with The Golden Compass and add other polar bear books and movies so come back often and join me in watching and reading about these magnificent creatures.

Klondike and Snow

True Story of the first polar bear cubs raised by hand.

Klondike & Snow

Raising 2 Polar Bear Cubs

This is one of my favorite books from my library. It's about the Denver Zoo and their raising of 2 polar bear cubs named Klondike and Snow.

The cubs were born on November 6, 1994 and rejected by their mother. They were taken to the Zoo's hospital and the staff raised them.

I read it and look at the pictures again every couple of months. The pictures are just amazing and the stories that go with them are so much fun.

I learned all sorts of things like their tongues are so large when they are small cubs that they can hardly keep them in their mouths (really!).

And they also like sleeping on their backs, but when they are really young, they can't turn themselves back over so they yell and yell until someone helps them. What a great mental image -- of course the book has pictures of them on their backs.

I rate this 5 Stars!!!

When Klondike and Snow were abandoned by their mother, zookeepers were very concerned about their health. Zoo workers knew polar bears needed special milk but they did not know what the perfect formula was. They experimented with different fractions of milk ingredients. In this book, the reader learns about fractions by the different percentages of ingredients in the bears' milk as they grow.

This latest book is fabulous. The author, Steven Kazlowski, has spent 13 years photographing polar bears along Alaska's Arctic coast. He spent the last 9 of them putting together photos for this book. The book is phenomenal as is his photos. Here's one:

This is one of my favorite books on polar bears. Klondike & Snow: The Denver Zoo's Remarkable Story of Raising Two Polar Bear Cubs by David E. Kenny

Klondike & Snow: The Denver Zoo's Remarkable Story of Raising Two Polar Bear Cubs by David E. Kenny

I love this book! I have fostered kittens and bottle fed them since 1999, so I could relate to bottle feeding these two babes. I was so moved by the book that half way through, my husband came in and saw me with tears streaming down my face and asked me what was wrong. I just shook my head. Nothing was wrong, I was just so moved by the tale of the raising of these two little bears.5 points

I rate it 5 paws out of 5. Another must have book for polar bear lovers.4 points
