Grandpa was always yelling say Cheese!

Remember when you would go to visit your grandparents and the minute you walked in the door the flash blinded you? Grandpa had his new toy out again-The Polaroid Colorpack III Instant Camera.

Do you remember these? You put a pack of Polaroid Land Film in the back and you had enough in the pack to take 8 pictures instantly. You had to make sure you were not in the direct sunlight while loading the film or you could cause it to fog up. Then you pulled out the black tab and this long strip came out of the camera. This probably was the protectant strip that held the film in place until ready to be used. If a white tab was sticking out of the slot you were ready to take pictures.

After your first shot you were to set the timer but not let it start, then hold onto the strap and let the camera hang loose. Pull the white tab all the way out from the camera and a yellow tab appeared. Next you were to pull the yellow tab all the way out and now the picture was developing outside of the camera-this is when you were to start the timer on the camera. This was when all of the little kids gathered around and waited for the timer to go off. Then an adult peeled the picture away from the the cover and like magic there was the shot.

The adults were telling the young kids to not touch the picture or you would get chemicals onto your skin. The instructions told how there was a caustic jelly used inside of the film pack and it could cause serious burns to the skin. I can tell you from experience that everyone of us kids touched the picture too early anyhow, I can hear the parents freaking out right at this moment. We all lived and seem to be normal adults, so I do not know what the fuss was all about.

This was taken with a Polariod.

This is a picture that was taken with a Polariod instant camera. I do know it was not with this camera. The picture was cropped many years ago to fit in the small frame. The frame was small because that was all my parents could afford at that time. Yes that is a picture of my parents in the early 70's. Weird huh!

Sylvania Blue Dot Flashcube

I just loved the flash bulb you had to sometimes use with these cameras. I know I am easily amused, but for some reason I just thought they were almost as beautiful as a Christmas ornament. I cannot place my finger on why I loved these so much, maybe it was the shape or the little bulbs inside with the blue dot. Could of possibly been the fact that they flashed a bright light, or rotated after use on the camera, I cannot explain it.

The Temperature Is Important

The Cold Clip

This film for this camera needed to be kept at a normal temperature. If it was lower than 65F then you had to use the cold clip. This was an aluminum plate that you were to place between your body and arm to keep it warm. After it was warmed up you placed the picture between the two plates to develope. It was not neccessary to do this with the black and white film. Only the color required the cold clip.
