The Polish Bantam Chcken
I blog quite often on my polish banties, along with all my other breeds of chickens, turkeys, geese, and whatever, at www.mamahenfolkart.com
The Little "Top Knots"
They really liked to interact with me, and any time I put my hand in the brooder, 2 to 3 would jump on.
They have finally outgrown that, except for one hen named Pete, who likes to hop onto my husbands head!

Fast Facts About The Polish Bantam Chicken
- Polish Bantams are really small, with the roosters weighing in at 30 ounces, and the hens weighing in at 28 ounces
- Polish chickens do not even come from Poland. Where they actually originate is open for discussion, but Russia or the Netherlands are both considered.
- Polish chickens are considered an ornamental breed, in other words, they look good(or bad, however you look at them).
- They come in many different color varieties : Buff-laced, Golden, Silver, White Crested Blue, White Crested White, Blue, and White Crested Black.
- The hens lay white eggs
- Polish hens do not go broody, in other words, they are non-sitters. I plan to either use the cochin hen or an incubator to hatch some new babies next Spring.
- Because of their crests, and in some varieties, beards, Polish Chickens cannot see very well, and may seem skittish.

But They Can't See - What to do?
I tried putting hair bows on them, but they just pulled them off. Finally, I checked out several chicken forums, and found that it wouldn't hurt them if I trimmed their feathers.
So...Yes, I gave my banties hair cuts, or rather, "feather cuts". They were surprisingly calm, and let me trim around their eyes with no problems. The next day they were exploring all over the yard. They may not be as "beautiful", but they can see.

- I too tried tieing their feathers in *pony tails* but the ties never lasted on mine either, so I ended up cutting the feathers.
Great lens!
