Political Refugees

Who is the real political refugee?
Who is the real human refugee?

There is no definite and clear prescription to political refugees and human refugees. However, the UNHCR has clear descriptions to those terms. In so many cases, this description or that faces some kinds of infringements. This happens when some people deceive the international channels to get asylums in this country or that.

False Political Refugees!

For example, there is no coordination in the European Union's Intelligentsia network. Therefore, some refugees regardless to their first claims fled from a country to another country and presented information that could be misleading to have rights to asylums and resettlement in the new countries.

This happens frequently and no body asks or investigates. It is enough for those claimed to be refugees to say for example they were fleeing an Arabic and Islamic militias in Darfur to obtain residency in Britain. It is not important whether those refugees came from Darfur, any other place in Africa or even from a country like Denmark. It is not important even if they have acquired a Danish recognition to their cases as refugees and they have residency in Denmark or not. What is important is the false claims those claimed to be refugees have submitted to the authorities of this or that country.

I have International Obligations by Profession

to write about false political refugees!

Since most of the claims are false against Arabs and Islam, so who bother?

I bother! I understand very well as an expert journalist the truth should rule. It is my role to uncover what is going on for the media to see the light, instead of just hearing false claims about what they call genocides in Darfur or any place else. They should know where and to whom the International money for human affairs should go.

What happens here could possibly indicate the absence of the informational network in the European Union. This is a door for the bad winds to get through and disturb this planet. However, who cares since the international money circulates in massive circles of network and may be getting to some individuals' pockets.

Are there any corruptions in this media?

I will not have any rest until I clear this issue! That is my duty as an expert journalist! I will always be a supporter to the truth. However, I will get through those lenses to support those real political refuges I know they need help!

Political Refugees Fled Denmark to Britain!

When the Misery Evolves and Creates Disarray!

When speaking about their cases for the second time after having them travelled to the second country, some political refugees provide different information about their cases to make strong cases. They know that they should never repeat the same story or mention that they have refugees' status in this country or that. Moreover, they know since they are now citizens in this country or that, then they will not be accepted in the second country if they said the truth.

Political refugees flee the country of their residency when the situations get hard for them to integrate in that country. Situations get hard for them upon implementation of some new regulations like those regulations the Danish government has implemented. Therefore, there is no wonder why those political refugees escape Denmark and throw all their Danish papers to win refuges in another European state.

This situation may indicate that they are looking for real resettlements!

A Sudanese National Committed a Suicide

The Sudanese national Deng Akok, a very charming and hopeful person, was accepted as a political Refugee in Denmark from Liberia. He applied to study in an agricultural institute in Aarhus area. He started his studies while the communal authorities in Sindal denied him his welfare because he had applied to receive students' grants.

He found himself without living expenses for more than three months so he killed himself to send an alert to those who are responsible of this situation.

Focus on One of the Political Refugees

Just before he was fed up

He did not know how those procedures work in that administrational system. He did not have enough orientation about the matter. He contacted the communal authorities, which in turn referred him to his institute several times. The problem was inevitable because the communal area stopped his welfare in the transitional period before he even received any grants. Therefore, he found himself lost in between a system formula no one of his friends knows about.

Some of his friends said, after his death the communal area said some money has transferred to his bank account in the last days before the incident. However, those friends did not accept what the administrational area has said and they described the matter like throwing ashes on the eyes.

Some Political Refugees Took Arms!

Some Countries Refuse to Accept Them!

Deng Akok was a Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA's member). This fact turns a big question in turn! How did the UNHCR accept his case and how Denmark did approve his resettlement? This question is because of the fact that Denmark does not accept anyone who took arms in a rebel movement as a political refugee! Some countries in Europe refuse to accept such refugees.

I came to know this information during resettlements' procedures in the UNHCR's national office in Asmara.

At that time, Denmark asked whether those political refugees took arms in Eritrea in rebels' movement against their governments or not? Those who told the protection officer and the resettlement officer the truth passed the tests. However, some of them told false information about this matter. Every body in the same quotas knows those small details about every one of them.

Maltreatment to Political Refugees

Under the recent government of VKO!

This is an example case to other policies against the Refugees on the way. Some of the Refugees ask why Denmark has signed the Convention and the 1967 Protocol relating to the status of the Refugees. Why it does accept Political Refugees since it has no good future projects for them to involve?

The example of this threat is that the Refugees under the integration or other related laws implemented by the government of VKO are facing work abuse. The abuse runs in regard to work requirements through different classifications that are not replying to some high professions of some political refugees. Those work requirements are running through the new laws introduced by the government that succeeded the Social Democrats Government.

The resettlement and security Denmark has signed within the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol, are including education, medicine, food and work. Food security means not to hold any Refugee's complete welfare until he finds a job or a grant, and not to enforce giving it through any kinds of unacceptable conditions.

Political Refugees and

Job Discrimination

The integration means to proceed with everybody in harmony with his education, abilities and profession, with accessible respect to his cultural backgrounds.

There should not be any kind of job discrimination from any kind. However, some political refugees face this abuse too. Example to this discrimination what is called the "Job Dress Discrimination". That discrimination targeted actually Muslim women, although religion beliefs are respected in the grand law. I heard this sentence always from different Muslim women "While searching for jobs, I found some few jobs; but they told me there: - well we have this job for you, but you should take off your scarf (tørklæde)."

One of the several foreign moms who are working on the cleaning sector said: "I am doing a practical training on this sector since four years without having a chance to get fast job, although I've applied to many firms!"

Angelina Jolie's Message

on June 20, World Refugees Day

Since early 2001, renowned American actress Angelina Jolie has travelled the world as a Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency. She works on behalf of refugees across the world to maintain and enhance political refugees' ethical measures of treatment. She says in her recent message on June 20, the World Refugees Day, "Refugees have done more for my heart and my spirit than I can ever express in words. They've changed my life with their friendship, love, courage and loyalty".

High Commissioner António Guterres said on World Refugee Day, "Refugees show incredible courage and perseverance in overcoming enormous odds to rebuild their lives. Ensuring that they get the protection they deserve is a noble cause".

Give Shelter to Rwandan Political Refugees

UNHCR plans to build 1,050 shelters in secure settlements in Rwanda as well as roads, bridges and a playground. The first proposal to fund this project costs US$407,060. There are 55,000 long-term political refugees in Rwanda survived the late genocide in the country.

"They may be refugees, they may have lost everything but, as human beings, they still need to feel that they have their dignity," says Emile Belem, a UNHCR programme officer working with those refugees.

The political refugees' officer highlights the emergency saying. "I see this all the time when I'm talking to men, to women - they value their dignity. Having their own shelter, just a basic shelter, can make them feel much happier right away - safe and happier."

UNHCR has to provide more than tents and plastic sheeting. The UN refugee agency organizes well-planned settlements with the infrastructure necessary to enable political refugees to access their rights to medical care, education and a clean water supply. These efforts to support political refugees take time, skills and experiences and of course the support of smart people.

Swedish Young Help Rwandan

Some Swedish teenagers are very active in helping other people in Africa developing more collective energies to rehabilitate and reconstruct their societies. In one of these activities, Swedish teenagers have raised US$900,000 for young female refugees in Rwanda to become more independent and to lead productive lives. The fund helps the UNHCR-run education project to commence.

Nadia Chakir and Enna Gerin, two young Swedish women from the Swedish Student Organization, recently visited Gihembe camp to see the implementation process of the project. 80,000 students in 250 high schools raised the funds during the annual "Operation a Day's Work" campaign across Sweden.

The Swedish Student Organization stages the day's work campaign to fund the educational project in a developing country. In addition, UNHCR collaborates with Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) to implement this year's project in Gihembe and three other Rwandan camps.

Play Computer Games Not Political Torture Games!

I am pleased to know that I am blowing the same creative (human flute) as an international organization has released lately a "Play the game Help us erase torture" campaign. A while back ago, I have created my recent "Play Games Not Wars" campaign-lenses to support global peace. Those lenses extend into different networks through Squidoo.com, Cafepress.com, Ezine Act and Youtube videos presentations.

The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) has produced a web-based game to celebrate United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture (26 June). The game invites the public to learn more about torture by testing their computer game skills at erasing torture.

Run for Darfur Refugee Children

UNHCR organizes a 10K running marathon for children refugees with Nike's Human Race support on 31 August in any one of 25 cities worldwide. UNHCR calls people anywhere who want to run for children to "vote with their feet" to raise much-needed funds for refugee children. People can do that in any place and then join the challenge of nine million metres here: Run for Darfur Refugee Children and follow the red button on the right column.

The ninemillion.org campaign is dedicated to giving refugee children the chance to learn and play. Funds raised by runners and donated by Nike will create sport and play facilities, equip classrooms and build computer centres for children in Chad who have fled from Darfur.

Call to Support Displaced People in Ossetia!

A message from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees!

At this moment, tens of thousands of civilians are living in precarious conditions, having been driven from their homes by the crisis in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia.

Yesterday, the first UNHCR plane carrying emergency aid arrived in the Georgian capital T'bilisi - the first international assistance to arrive in the country since fighting broke out last week. This included tents, blankets, jerry cans and kitchens sets from our central emergency stockpile.

Over the weekend, I made an appeal to the Georgian and Russian authorities to establish humanitarian corridors to allow civilians to flee the conflict zones.

The UN refugee agency has a long-established presence in the region and, since 1993, has been caring for some 275,000 people displaced previously.

Working with local partners, we are now providing assistance to the most vulnerable and needy. These include many young children and family members separated from one another. The situation is evolving rapidly and we are monitoring the needs of the newly displaced population, which now numbers some 100,000.

We urgently need more supplies. We are working actively to get aid to South Ossetia, which has been cut off by the security situation. We also hope to reach at least 30,000 people who have fled across the border into North Ossetia in the Russian Federation.

Please help by donating to our emergency appeal: http://www.unhcr.org/donate/index.htm

We expect the cost of the operation to reach into the millions, so I'm sure you'll understand why I'm hoping that we can count on you to help.

Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated and make all the difference.

With thanks,

António Guterres
UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Malaria Kills Political Refugees in Eastern Africa!

Malaria kills great numbers of refugees in Eastern Africa, where they settle in camps for months and sometimes years. Refugees have lost their homes, belongings, family members, and they are living in close quarters with unfamiliar people.

In addition to these loses, refugees in Eastern Africa are vulnerable to the deadly bite of mosquitoes. The most dangerous element of their stay in those camps is that their time can be cut short with just one deadly mosquito bite.

Refugees are particularly vulnerable to malaria - in fact, every day in those camps where there is no adequate means to prevent mosquitoes from spreading. Malaria is the number one cause of illness and death among refugees in Africa.

After everything else refugees have endured, they should not then die of a mosquito bite. Especially when it costs just US$10 to protect a refugee with a net - send a net today by your name on it through the political refugees lens to UNHCR

Information about Malaria:

Malaria is a disease caused by the blood parasite Plasmodium. Malaria transmitted by the Anopheles mosquitoes. The conceptual term comes from the medieval Italian words mal aria or cattiva aria, which means bad air. It infects more than 500 million people a year and kills more than a million according to some sources. However, other sources suggest high numbers.

Malaria is particularly devastating in Africa, in the rainy and watery places, where many countries lack the proper infrastructure, resources and means for good healthy protection.

Malaria is a self-perpetuating problem with large-scale impact on societies and economies. As a vector-borne infectious disease caused by protozoan parasites, Malaria widespread in tropical and subtropical (Savannah) regions including parts of America, Asia and Africa.

There are approximately 515 million cases of malaria every year, killing between one and three million people, the majority of who are young children in Sub-Saharan Africa, according to wikipedia.org.

Hundreds of Thousands Congolese Flee Democratic Republic of Congo!

Congolese refugees from DRC crossing into Kisoro District in South-West Uganda

After more than a decade of strife, a fresh outbreak of fighting has now forced an additional 250,000 people to flee their homes escaping the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The UNHCR is now doing everything they can to help the innocent victims of this latest crisis, as well as the hundreds of thousands previously displaced.

The situation is extremely volatile and conditions on the ground are very difficult. Some refugees have walked for more than 20 hours to reach shelter and assistance, and all are in desperate need.

Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie in Afghanistan!

As a goodwill ambassador, Angelina Jolie visited UNHCR operation in Afghanistan. She listened to women refugees, children and old men weeping their human pain in dignity. Surprisingly, they did not ask for food but for education to their children to leave the illiteracy margins and enter the civilization to prove that they are humans not as the media in the west describes them.

UNHCR Fights Different Circumstances to Reach Displaced Civilians in DRC!

UNHCR is getting aid through to Democratic Republic of Congo, in spite of the outbreaks of shooting that have caused turmoil and panic among the civilians. The United Nation agency commits to its international duties and says, "we are striving to protect civilians, and we are extremely concerned about security."

On Monday, a plane carrying 36 tonnes of relief supplies from the UNHCR central emergency stockpile arrived in Uganda. From there, some 1,500 bales of plastic sheeting and 3 pre-fabricated warehouses flown to Goma, where the UNHCR has six camps that are now home to thousands of displaced people.

Other items - 3,000 jerry cans, 2,650 plastic sheets, 7,500 blankets and 1,500 kitchen sets - are on the way by road to help the displaced further north.

Lately Amnesty International said the humanitarian and human rights crisis in North Kivu province is worsening rapidly as rebel forces threaten to overwhelm government troops and the embattled UN peacekeeping force, MONUC.

Numbers of Displaced Escalate in Pakistan and the UNHCR Appeals for More Help!

UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres began a three-day humanitarian mission in Pakistan today. He arrived to Islamabad to assess the UNHCR's emergency response to the continuing displacement crisis. Antonio addressed the UNHCR's supporters at his arrival expressing his concerns. "I felt I must come here and express my personal solidarity with the Pakistani people," he said.

More than 835,000 people fleeing the fighting in northwest Pakistan have been registered since 2 May. This figure is a dramatic increase within just 48 hours as the day before the number of displaced Pakistanis surpassed the half a million mark. According to António Guterres, "This is a massive, massive displacement in the world today."

UNHCR has opened stockpiles of supplies to help the displaced. Earlier this week the UN agency has also airlifted to Pakistan some 120 tonnes of emergency aid items including plastic sheets for shelters and mosquito nets.

The High Commissioner for Refugees appealed to supporters to continue their missions with the UNHCR. "I hope we can continue to count on your support to help the hundreds of thousands of displaced in northwest Pakistan," he said. "The speed and the sheer size of this unfolding humanitarian crisis poses a heavy strain on UNHCR resources" he added.

UNHCR is almost entirely funded by voluntary contributions to perform its global protection and assistance mission. "Whether it is my staff or myself, we are committed to keeping you informed on the dramatic humanitarian situation on the ground." Antonio addressed supporters at the end of his call to more actions.
