Without a strong grounding in philosophy and the study of history, politics is just a game of Red Team vs. Blue Team - but when we step out of the echo chambers and into the streets, when we engage in vigorous debate in the marketplace of ideas, revolution occurs - and evolution quickly follows. Like the American founding fathers we must dedicate ourselves to the discovery of truth (and thereby divinity) through direct experience of reality, and a willingness to question our beliefs when the facts contradict our in-grained ideas. Let us restore the value of scientific theory over rigid ideology.
If you learn one thing about politics, philosophy, I hope it's this
Politics and philosophy are inseparable in a healthy democracy - and by "philosophy" I don't mean one's defining worldview, I mean the "love of wisdom." I mean an approach to policy that is dictated by a sense of duty as a citizen, and a sense of brotherhood as patriots more than it is driven by party affiliations or economic class. I hope you will devote yourself to refining and honing your political and philosophical beliefs, like a blacksmith refines a blade - through sweat, discomfort and an untiring application of heat and pressure.
