My Heroes
There are many instances of pit bulls being productively employed by U.S. Customs as police K9s.
A rescued pit bull called Popsicle is a United States Customs dog, and is famous for sniffing out one of the biggest cocaine busts in history
* Dakota is a pit bull who, during her career, was one of the most active search and rescue dogs in the country and was called to work some very high profile search efforts such as the search for Laci Peterson and the search effort to find the remains of the astronauts who lost their lives in explosion of the Space Shuttle Columbia.
* Neville is a pit bull originally from Ontario. When the provincial pit bull ban went into effect he was rescued to Washington state, where he is now a police dog.

the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05222/551360.stm
The film "Dog Jack" is based upon a novel by Florence Biros. The author was inspired to write the story after learning about the dog from the display in the Pittsburgh museum. Other than the exploits of the dog, the story is fictional.
Piglet herself became somewhat of a hero, being the first deaf dog in film history to play such a prominent role. In this day and age when pit bull types are subject to increasingly strict legislation and even slaughter, such as is ongoing in Denver, a film like "Dog Jack" which honors a real pit bull hero for the breed type's characteristic bravery and loyalty is much needed positive press.

Poem for CC
the pink bellied pit
Inspired once again, this time by CC, the pink-bellied pit,
who consistently breaks local tail-wagging ordinances.
Yes God spelled backwards is Dog. And we bow and say Wow!
God, many perceive to be in the heavens, but dog is on earth;
four legs on the ground. Yes, they say all dogs go to heaven,
however Dog is a bridge, between man's instinctive nature,
(the garden) and the mind, as Dog has adapted to please Man.
A wag of the tail, shining eyes, a playful gait and a grateful Soul,
all reminding us of a certain perfection.
All of this encourages us not to take life too seriously,
to be playful in the moment.

Pit Bulls and Dogfights Sell Papers
It is very common for dog attacks involving other breeds to be mistakenly labeled as 'pit bull attacks'. Often, the attacking dog is not a pit bull, but is mistakenly reported as such.[citation needed]
Negative perceptions about pit bulls are well enough established to be spoofed, as in The Onion's mock caption "Heroic Pit Bull Journeys 2,000 Miles to Attack Owner" (Apr 17, 2002) and "Department Of Homeland Security Deputizes Real Mean Dog", a Rottweiler-Pit Bull-Doberman mix introduced to the press corps approvingly by Tom Ridge (May 21, 2003).
in a series of dog temperament tests conducted by the American Temperament Test Society, Pit Bulls had a passing rate of 95 percent.
These tests put different dog breeds through various situations. Some tests involved the participation of strangers. Any sign of aggression and stress from the dog resulted in a failure of the test.
Golden Retrievers scored an 83 percent and Beagles scored a 78 percent.
The American Kennel Club believes Pit Bulls are the ideal family pet and recommended the breed as an especially good dog for children.
The American Temperament Test Society continually ranks Pit Bulls better in temperament than many other breeds. The Airedale Terrier, Basenji, Beagle, Bichon Frise, Border Collie, Chihuahua, Collie, Dachshund(4 of 6 varieties), English Setter, Lhasa Opso, Pomeranian, Shar-Pei, Shiba Inu, Shih Tzu, Schnauzer, and Toy Poodle all score below average and many more far below that of the Pit Bull. Even though these other breeds temperament score is less than average many would not even think twice in their ownership as a family pet.

Breed Specific Legislation Reinforces Stereotypes
These laws are based upon fear and ignorance. If you see a dog with a muzzle, you automatically assume the dog will bite. If you see a pit bull in a muzzle, be afraid, very afraid of the vicious dog...
