Polly Pocket Toys

Polly Pocket was created by Chris Wiggs who created the doll for his little girl in 1983, but the toy wouldn't hit the shelves until Bluebird Toys picked it up in 1989. The following year Mattel would try taking over the company, but it didn't work. Mattel never gave up though, every year there was a battle and finally in 1998 Mattel won and took over and make the pretty little Polly the little girl everyone knows and loves.

In 1998 when Mattel finally got their hands on Polly Pocket they introduced a whole new line of toys, including the doll herself. Polly was changed from the hard plastic mold she'd been created into a more Barbie-like plastic where her arms and legs moved as did her head. Instead of the simple outfit that was molded onto the doll before, Mattel introduced thin plastic clothes that could pull over the doll. Little girls everywhere loved this concept. Now they could change Polly's outfit for each occasions, season, etc. Polly even had friends! Polly, Lea, Shani, Lila were also introduced and next came guys, pets, etc.
