World Masterpiece Theater version:

The Japanese company, World Masterpiece Theater (not to be confused for Masterpiece Theatre of England, which would do a live version in later years) put out this animated version of POLLYANNA in various languages in 1986. This one is dubbed in French, and I remember having seen several such anime pieces when living in Canada from 1969-1972. Aunt Polly & her ward seem much friendlier, from the start. &, you can spot the famous prism scene in the following trailer:

I love this PSA, & finally decided it belongs with the videos above. This obviously was NOT a movie. &, no calling that phone number, because that performance is surely NOT still going on! Of course, if you're curious about their present offerings or want to do an article...

POLLYANNA meets KNOT'S LANDING

Karen's "Pollyanna speech"

Knots Landing, television's second longest running drama (after Gunsmoke), ran from 1979 to 1993 on CBS television. It was an evening soap opera about privilege and back-stabbing.

However, one character spoke out against all that. This was Karen's "Pollyanna speech."

"I wanna be a Pollyanna. I don't want to look at the world through rose colored glasses, I want the world to be rose colored. I want people to be nice. People SHOULD be nice. Nice should be the norm. I hate it that I can't trust anyone! I hate it that I can't put my daughter on the front lawn by herself! I hate it that I have to lock my car, and that I have to worry about an alarm system in my house and I can't send cash in the mail! That's not the way it's supposed to be, Gary! I liked being a Pollyanna, I WANT to be a Pollyanna!"

So, how about you? Do you want to be Pollyanna?

Pollyanna Board Game by Parker Bros.

The 1915 stage play version was an immediate hit, & merchandising was big, even then. If you're a collector, be on the lookout for this board game. :D

Hi ! Thanks for stopping by. I didn't know that there were other films or even books. I like the Disney version a lot. Thanks for sharing your info here :)

    Hi Gordon,

I love the painting you're using as your new profile pic--the one with the three sheep in the snow! :D

Glad I could introduce you to the films & book. Oh, Hayley Mills will always be Pollyanna to me. I simply love her in the Disney version! <3

However, I'm so glad I eventually found the book! I only read it, the first time, about a year ago. And now I'm reading it, again. It's amazing that a book almost 100 years old can have such reach.

    Keep smiling, Bruce! :O)

Thank you for your wonderful comment on my profile. I thought I'd stop by and take a look at this other Pollyanna lens you mentioned. I didn't realize the story was quite that old. But, then again, it's timeless.

    Hi Deb,

    Thanks, for perusing! :O)

Yeah, "It's an old story, but one that can still be told," to quote THE oldest story of them all, GILGAMESH, of ancient Babylon! (In fact, you can take a look at my review of a teen novel set in that general time & area at http://alturl.com/49rq7 )

Here's a funny story about all these different versions of POLLYANNA. Someone on the Internet was saying how glad she was to have seen what she presumed was a more authentic version on MASTERPIECE THEATRE. I just had to set her straight, that POLLYANNA is an Amercian story! Hahaha!

Thought you'd appreciate that, Sweetie! ;O)

Can't wait to visit another of your lenses. Oh, & thanks, again for your wonderful lense about 100 things you're grateful for! :D
