Teach Abduction Prevention Without Scaring Your Child or Yourself
As parents it is our job to make our children aware of all the dangers they face everyday, the key is to do it without scaring them and without becoming so paranoid ourselves that we don't let them out of our site.
Through trial and error I've managed to talk to my kids, even though they are teenagers, about this topic. My youngest admitted that he was afraid to tell me that someone tried (more than once) to get him into their car because he was embarassed...which is common among males. I told him simply, make as much noise as you can--yell scream, fight, anything to get away.
Unfortunately he told me a few days after the fact so that I couldn't call the police...yes I am one of those parents who worries constantly and anyone who tries to hurt one of my kids has no idea who they are dealing with.
