Nature Photography

This lens is all about nature photography and backyard photography.

Feel free to kick off your shoes, browse around,  sign the guestbook, check out my links, give me a 5 star rating...  You know, just have a good time.  I've had a lot of fun creating this, but I don't want to be the ONLY one enjoying it!

Have fun!

Another Hummer

I've finally been able to capture a hummingbird in flight without the wings being a total blur. I love how this shot turned out!

Halloween Mantis

This little guy has made a home on our glowing Jack-o-lantern outside of our front door.

LENS OF THE DAY!!

My lens was one of the winning lenses for the Polly Klaas Foundation and so received the honor of Lens Of The Day. YAY!

My Prickly Pears are in Bloom!

"Tell me the truth... Does this pollen make me look fat?"

I wait every year for these to bloom because, when they do, WOW! Of course, they're perfect subjects for my photography. The bees are mesmerized by them. They bury themselves in the pollen, so I get to photograph the bees too. By the way, the yellow glob on the bees hind leg (I know, it's hard to see) is pollen.
If you'd like to see larger images of any of these photos, go to my links below and visit my Flickr account.

Prickly Pear Pad

Prickly Pear pads make for an interesting picture too!

Prickly Pear Flower

I love this picture. I'm going to blow it up, mat and frame it.

"Iris You Were Here..."

Titled by my Husband

This beauty is growing in my flower garden. Purple and yellow are my favorite colors, so this picture is a new favorite of mine. If you want to see larger versions of any of my pics, go to the "My Flickr Account" link in my links list at the bottom of this lens.

We went to the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix

Native American Pot

There were so many beautiful things there to photograph, I don't know where to start!! I think this is one of my favorite pictures from our trip. It just looks so peaceful to me.

Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix...

Cactus

I thought this was a pretty cactus. Interesting form and color made better by the light hitting it. I think this one would also look very nice in black and white, but I love the pretty green color too much to change it!

Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix...

Desert Bloom

This tiny little flower caught my eye. I love the way it cups the light, illuminating it from the inside. It just seemed to be glowing!

Framed Saguaro

There is a really cool sculpture there at the garden right now which looks like a series of really big bird's nests. You can walk through them and there are "windows" you can look out of. I took advantage of the windows to do some framing of subjects such as this Saguaro cactus.

Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix...

Pathway by the Pond

This pathway looked so inviting! It is near a pond along one of the trails in the Botanical Garden. I love how the arch of the tree and it's shadow create a circular effect drawing your eye to the center of the photo!

Curly

I loved how the ends of these leaves were curly so I decided to focus on that aspect of the plant for this picture. I think the sky looks absolutely beautiful in the background!

Phoenix Sunset

I took this shot from the playground of my elementary school. It was pretty tight getting this one since the view was flanked by two school bulidings, but I managed to keep them out of the picture.

I've been snapping pictures in my backyard...

Ladybugs

We released a bunch of ladybugs in our backyard, so I siezed the moment to catch some great shots! I think this one is my favorite. The ladybug is on a "snapdragon" plant in my flower garden.
Fun, fun!

More pictures from my backyard!

Hummingbird

This picture was featured in the 2008 calendar for Project Feeder Watch! Yay!!
We call him "El Diablo" (which must be pronounced as though Antonio Bandares is saying it), but in reality he's a Costa's Hummingbird. He's very pretty and fun to watch. He is not at all afraid of us and has landed on the feeder while I'm holding it. We like watching him and his "girlfriends" chasing each other around our trees and nearly running into my daughter's head!

Summer Flowers

This was taken in the HOT summer here

I was testing out my new camera. I've always been suspicious of digital cameras, but after I lost my camera (somewhere in Portland, OR) I gave in and bought a "fancy, schmancy" digital... I LOVE IT!

Kitty of the Serengeti

My indoor cat Newton

He's so pretty and cute! My little, orange fluff ball.

Mom's March Blooms

"The birthday bush"

Taken at my parent's house. These are pretty yellow flowers that bloom every year around my birthday. They smell good too!

My son's first day of preschool

This is one of the few pictures I've been able to take of him. He's usually running, climbing or making a wierd face. I thought this was cute, though.

Green Roses

Little trailing succulent plant

This has it's happy home in a pot in my front yard. Pretty huh?

Spike

This is a little fellow that I bought for my daughter while we were visiting the Desert Botanical Garden.

Spike in the Sky

I thought it would be cool to accentuate the spikes on this cactus by giving it a clear blue sky as a background. Lucky for me there's no shortage of clear blue skies here in AZ.

Birdbath Garden

I planted some succulents in a birdbath of mine that had started to leak. I think it turned out rather nicely, if I do say so myself. Makes for a cool picture too.

Curly-Haired Cactus

This cactus just looks to me as if it was cursed with a bad hair-do!
