Stories of Poltergeist Activity

The word "poltergeist" comes to us from the German poltern, meaning to make noise, and Geist, meaning "ghost" or "spirit".

Reports of Poltergeist activity come from many different cultures. The oldest known poltergeist stories date all the way back to the first century! So the idea of poltergeists has been around for a very long time.

Here you will find personal stories about encounters with poltergeists by those who experienced them. You will also find links to more information and stories about poltergeists.

Poltergeist in Old Victorian House

Some time around 18 years ago, one of my friends wanted to host a party with all of his friends in his really old Victorian house. When he invited us, he gave us a warning, that it was haunted by an old poltergeist. He stated that his things kept disappearing, only to reappear in odd places, like, the bottom of the toilet or clogging the shower drain. Anyway, we didn't really think anything of the topic.

Me and my best friend, Moka, decided to join everyone else. There were only about eight other people, including Michael, the host.

A few days later, we showed up at Michael's house, ready to have a good time. After a while though, we were sitting around doing stupid stuff with all of my friends, when the lights suddenly went out (and mind you, this is one of those old houses where they had these buzzers to call your servants) so me and my friend calmly suggested that we go to find the breaker. Everyone else was too scared to, because of the "poltergeist". Of course, at the time, we never believed in that crap anyway.

We went into the basement without flashlights, because we were not scared. When we had found the breaker, we tried to flip it, but it seemed to be stuck. At the precise moment when I was just about to state how odd it was, there were bone-chilling screams from above us. We raced up the steps only to hear the random buzzing of the servants calls. It was pretty creepy because, we had been down by the main "buzzing station" and there was no one there but us.

Once we got to the main room, mostly everyone was gone except for Michael who had a face as white as ice. He assures us that he would be fine without us, sending a very freaked out pair of girls.

It was creepier in real life than on paper, or on an internet webpage! and I might have missed a few things that also happened, but this was like, 18 years ago.

Poltergeist in Trenton Michigan

I lived in a town house and I was six at the time. When me and my family were sitting on the living room couch, watching TV, all of a sudden they heard a loud crash that sounded like glass breaking. They ran downstairs to find the remains a light bulb in swept into a dust pan with a broom standing next to it. Not only did this occurrence happened, I was also pushed one time on my back, my cats were circling around me looking up. The smell of smoke could be smelled and no one smoked in the home or next door either side. There were footsteps around my mom and dad's bed at night and my mom got screamed "boo!" through her ear while washing clothes.

I regret my childhood because of that home, I started my own paranormal investigation team to help others. It's a downriver, MI paranormal team, if anyone needs help with their hauntings let us know, we are non-profit. You can Call us at 734 512 7595 or email me at ohmiparanormal [at] hotmail.com.

Samantha's Poltergeist

Samantha dated a guy and he gave her a necklace. After an "unpleasant" break-up, she was very emotionally unhappy. She hid her necklace away with the rest of the things he gave her in a box in her closet.

As nights went on, she lost various objects including her computer and her necklace. This all happened until the day she woke up wearing the necklace. Samantha freaked out, but I assumed it was sleep walking (I'm a major skeptic/realist). So she came over to my house where Samantha, Jason, and I tried to decide what was going on. She made a quick trip to her house to grab a recipe for carrot cake and found her computer on her bed with the necklace inside of it. My brother, Jason knew exactly what was going on because he was a superstitious New Mexican, and explained to us all about poltergeists.

We decided to conduct a test of what was going on. Jason placed the necklace face up in a clear glass cup, and set it on the computer and far away enough from any of us to reach it(this way, wind couldn't affect it, and we'd hear if someone tried to move it) and Samantha took a couple pictures of it on her phone. We slept in my room and took turns freaking each other out until we finally decided to go to bed. Suddenly, we heard the necklace move. We blamed it on Jason, but he was equally scared. We turned the lights on and saw that the necklace had been flipped over, and we double checked it with the bad quality photos on Samantha's phone. It definitely moved. We mimicked the noise by sliding the necklace on the computer. Then we fell asleep with fear in our minds.

The next morning, nobody believed us. We went to show the pictures; but they had been erased. We tried to forget, but Jason persisted. He hid it this time under a glass and we didn't know where he put it. We completely forgot until the next morning when it was FROZEN INTO THE ICE THAT CAME OUT OF THE ICE DISPENSER! Jason showed us exactly where he put it and there was an empty upside down glass in the other room. Also, Samantha has the picture of her and her ex constantly on the background of her computer, no matter how much she tries to changes it.

Similar things kept happening, and eventually it became normal. We kind of forgot and things got better with Samantha and her ex. Doors still open and close randomly (like, no joke, a microwave and a locked back door) but we've come to live with our little ball of psycho-kinetic energy as if we were related.

The China Cabinet Poltergeist

I had moved to Maryland with my aunt and uncle and their two children when I was 13 in 1997. My cousin Tammy (their daughter) was downstairs in the basement. I am not sure what she was doing down there. I was in the living room watching TV while lying on the couch. From where I was lying I could see the doorway to the basement and see the light on in the corner of my eye while I was watching TV. So if I would have gotten up and stood at the basement door I could look across and see the dining room with the China cabinet in it.

Anyway, I started hearing the drawers of the China cabinet opening and closing. Mind you no one was in the house but me and my cousin. If Tammy were to walk up the steps out of the basement I would have heard the steps creaking.

My aunt and uncle came home a little while later and my cousin still hadn't come from the basement. My aunt then asked me what I was looking in the China cabinet for and why didn't I tuck the cloth napkins back in.

The Poltergeist is With Me Presently

I have a poltergeist "staying" at my house for about three months now. Several times daily I hear (as well as my guests) very loud "knocking" sounds coming from an area about three feet away from us. How loud? Very loud and disturbing and scary to all there. It comes at all hours of the day and evening with no warning. Just three or four loud raps are heard. This is scary, very scary indeed. Oh yes, I also hear whispering and chanting late at night in the house and just several weeks ago a rock was hurled at me from out of no where, literally.

What's going on here? By the way, I am not a child. I am 61 years old, an American living in Asia for the past 15 years.

Is There a Poltergeist in My House?

One day when my mum was standing, ironing in the kitchen we heard this really loud bang. Before I say anything else I was in my room on the middle floor, and my sister was in her room on the top floor. Anyway we heard this really loud bang so me and my sister ran down stairs where we found my mum knelt down on the floor picking up the candle that mysteriously flew across the room.

A couple of weeks later I was in the bathroom when a shampoo bottle came flying at my head.

Poltergeist Activity and Noises

My house has always been peaceful and quiet (until my grandmother passed away and me and my family moved in) but now that we have been here for eight years we've been experiencing some paranormal activity.

My family has always been known as a peace loving family and one night I woke up in the middle of the night because I had to use the bathroom. I heard some weird scratching noise at the bathroom door. I checked to see if anyone was there and no one was to be seen. In the morning I asked my brother if he could pass me the salt at breakfast and it seemed like someone had purposely shoved the salt away from me.

My family had shared their paranormal encounters and the same thing everyone said is that they heard a little child's voice in back of them.

Poltergeists:

Examining Mysteries of the Paranormal

A compelling examination of poltergeist phenomena.
At least thirty-five police officers around the world -- in at least thirteen separate cases dating back to 1952 -- claim to have witnessed some form of poltergeist activity. Nine of them were assaulted by what they say was a poltergeist, but none was seriously injured and no one has been charged nor have the mysteries been solved definitively.

There are numerous cases of "hauntings" studied throughout the world every year, many of which hold up to close scrutiny. Poltergeists takes a look at a number of these in-depth case studies: - An eleven-year old boy inhabited by a poltergeist, who causes photographs to become moving pictures and elevates a chair with a police officer sitting on it;
- Fourteen-year-old Tina Resch who, with her anger, appears to make glasses airborne, move tables, and send telephones flying;
- The Hodgson family who are terrorized by flying Lego pieces that are hot to the touch and furniture that moves of its own accord, usually in the presence of eleven-year-old Janet;
- Eleven-year-old Virginia Campbell who seems to cause heavy furniture to move at home and desks to float at school, always in twenty-eight-day cycles;
- A twelve-year-old Kentucky boy who -- subconsciously -- moves heavy objects in the presence of two parapsychologists watching him closely for signs of trickery.

For his investigations, Clarkson interviewed hundreds of witnesses, paranormal experts, psychologists, professors, magicians, and skeptics. While it may raise as many questions as it answers, Poltergeists is an undeniably fascinating study of the paranormal.

    I know many poltergeist stories and I do believe them. There are several worlds and we all have to acknowledge them without any hesitation or scary feelings. It will help the humanity move ahead. Thanks for the interesting lens.

    All serious stuff, though some people laugh and pretend it is nothing. Our neighbor recently has talked about several things that freaked him out - like his son's remote control car starting up and driving by itself, doors being open or shut when he did not do it, etc. All this stuff is not the activity of a deranged/crazy person, it is the activities of spirits/demons, that have been given access to your house/life, by things you or someone close to you has done, etc. that let them in. Also, it is possible to be cursed by someone else, which would also work the same way.

    Well be it psychokinetic or spirit activity I do sometimes hear odd noises in my room at night, moving of the chair. Interesting in any way.

    In reality, science has proven that poltergeist activity has nothing to do with spirit activity, but has to do with psychokinetic activity instead. Still very scary stuff!

    Oh, I defiantly believe in ghost. I had one follow me for years until just recently. It was a little boy with a ball. Every once and a while I would hear the ball hit the floor. Thank you for sharing.
