What is a polydactyl cat?

A polydactyl cat is a multi digited paw upon our little furry kitten friends, ie my cats can count up to 24. But it isn't always a for sure digit, or number. Sometimes the polydactyl cats have any number of extra digits when they are born. The trait is usually taken from the mother because as far as I can tell, It could be any ol' dad cat but the babies will have the polydactyl traits, if the mother has them.

You usually won't have a cat say with 5 claws on one paw, 6 claws on the next, 7 claws on the third paw etc. All my kitties are showing...
