Pomeranians, Queen Victoria's favorite toy dog breed

Meet Mountain Boss!

When the breeder asked what my little girls had decided to name our new dog, she sounded a bit surprised to hear "Mountain Boss." Perhaps she was expecting "Snuggles" or "Sparkles"?

However, my eldest daughter loves Bigfoot and cryptids in general, so she suggested that we name our little dog after the biggest, neatest animal she could think of. "Mountain Boss" is a nickname for Sasquatch or Bigfoot.

Bless the Queen!

These tiny toy dogs from Pomerania descended from Icelandic sled dogs!

Bless the queen for commissioning what some people call "the cutest dog on earth." Queen Victoria of England played a significant role in transforming the 40-pound German Spitz into the tiny teacup Pomeranian breed of today.

About Us

We're a family of 5 persons, 2 cats, and one little dog. We homeschool and I work from home, so we all spend lots of time together.

Mountain Boss goes most everywhere with us. Every Sunday, Mountain Boss braves the leashless dog park.

It's our habit to look up most questions that pop into our minds. That's how we know that Queen Victoria's breeding program was responsible for reducing the size of Pomeranians (aka Dwarf Spitz) by half their previous size.

Where did you get your pet?

Mountain Boss was born 4 hours away from where we live. The breeder drove him to a nearby town where my husband and eldest daughter picked him up.

How did you come up with the name?

"Mountain Boss" is one of the names the California Yurok have called Bigfoot. My daughter heard the name on an episode of MonsterQuest.

What are your favorite things to do with Mountain Boss?

He goes most everywhere with us: dance classes, grocery shopping, etc. Our favorite thing to do is go for walks at the leashless park.

Dog Training

A Daily Rountine for Quickly Training Your Puppy
According to Paul Owens, author of The Dog Whisperer (Adams Media, 1999), "Establishing a daily routine is very helpful in developing your puppy's or new dog's sense of security and confidence (and it's great for house training!)." A secure and confident dog can focus on your training efforts and can begin to more easily anticipate your expectations.
