Pond bridges

Constructing a pond in your backyard is not as difficult as you may think. You need to be able to keep the pond filtered, however, as stagnant water will dry up after a period of time and be somewhat of an eyesore as well as a health concern. You can do this by attaching a water filtering system to your pond set up and tapping into the water pipe in your home. This can promote a constant flow of water in the pond as well as continue to keep it filtered.

Over the pond, many people like to put pond bridges. Pond bridges are usually made of wood and are small, ornamental bridges that can be walked over to view the pond. The size of the pond bridge will depend upon the size of your garden as well as the pond. Obviously, you would want a larger pond bridge if you have a large pond.

Pond Bridges can be anchored to the ground with cement or with chains. You should anchor the pond bridge in some way so that it does not blow over with a storm, although if it is a heavy bridge, many people choose to just allow it to remain unanchored. There are covered bridges as well as open bridges that you can use for this purpose. You can also get pond bridges that have a arbor point where you can allow creeping vines to grow.

Before you install a pond or pond bridge, think about the design that you want to create in your garden. You can look at some garden design books that can help you with this process. You want to be able to not only create a pond that is functional, but one that looks pleasant. The bridge should be measured so that it fits across the pond and carefully fitted to the ground.

You will also want to create a path going to and from the bridge. It looks better if there is some sort of path leading to and from bridge, even if it is a small one. You can use paver bricks to create a path or even wood chips. Stepping stones are another way you can create your own path.

If you have a small garden, you can have a simply circular design that allows you to walk a path around the circumference of the garden and across the bridge. You may also have a path going to the middle of the garden that leads to a sun dial or birdbath or some other structure.

Make sure that the Garden Bridge that you choose is one that fits with the décor of your garden. These bridges come in many colors and styles and you want to pick one that reflects the theme you are trying to create. Again, take a look in some magazines and see the different styles for yourself. If you have an English garden theme throughout your yard, you will not want to put an Oriental pond bridge across the pond as it will look out of place, and vice versa.

You can find Pond Bridge Kits online as well as in a variety of different gardening centers. Take a look at the many different woods and choices and find one that will last a good long time.
