Tips to make cleaning up your backyard pond easier
Geez, I know that many of you pond owners don't want to hear about cleaning up your pond for the fall and ultimately closing it. If you do things right now, the job might be a little bit easier. As a 3 year pond owner in Michigan, I might have a few tips. Take what you need and enjoy!

Water Garden - Late Summer Tips
Clean out the filter and pump regularly during late summer and check it at least once a week.
Add water from evaporation in intervals so that the balance of the pond is not interrupted.
Prune your plants regularily. It's very important to add floating aquatic plants in late summer.
Dead head your aquatic plants on a regular basis - especially in late summer.
If you spot leaf mildew, remove the infected parts to stop it from spreading throughtout your entire pond.
Introduce new fish gradually. Get rid of bad algae' and blanketweed.
Since algae suck the oxygen out of the water at night, make sure you use an aerator or waterfall to add oxygen to the water throughout the entire summer and into fall.
