Atari PONG - The Original Home Video Game

Atari PONG was a very popular video arcade game manufactured and released in 1972. It was the first commercially successful video arcade game and led to the start of the video game industry. In 1975 Atari released a home version of PONG which was also a commercial success and started the home video game craze. PONG is a very simple simulation of a table tennis game - by today's video game standards it is "quaint." It's simplicity is intriguing though, and it's surprisingly fun to play even today.

Play PONG Online

The easiest way to play PONG...

PONG is a very simple game, and several people have written versions in Javascript that you can play in your web browser. Googling PONG will return a long list of sites, many of which allow you to play PONG online. While most of the Javascript versions of PONG don't exactly match the look of the original game, they are the quickest (and cheapest) way to experience PONG.

Is this one of the best video games ever or what?

As an Atari computer dealer (1982), I remember it well. Many of the early Atari games were state of the art.

For most people, the most convenient way to play PONG will be on your PC. The official Atari version of PONG matches the screen, play, and sound effects of the original very well. Besides PONG, these video game collections include many other classic Atari video games and are very affordable. Play Pong on your TV

Just like back in the good old days...

Playing video games on your computer is fun, but sometimes nothing can match the original user experience. For PONG, that means playing on your TV. The great news is you don't have to try and track down an original vintage console - you can get a brand new Atari game console that includes PONG and many other classic Atari games. The best part is you get to play it on your TV using original style Atari joysticks. Retro video gaming just doesn't get any better than this...

Build your own PONG game

What are you waiting for?

What could be more entertaining than playing PONG? Building your own PONG game of course. If installing PONG on your PC or plugging a game console into your TV sounds like it's just not challenging enough, you might be interested in building your own PONG game. Thinkgeek sells a PONG kit for only $20, and while it doesn't play exactly like the original PONG it's still pretty cool. If even a kit sounds too wimpy for you, you can download a copy of the original Atari PONG schematics and scratch build a PONG game from individual TTL chips - now THAT sounds like fun...

I don't know why but it seems like every time I play it now a days I get worse and worse instead of better. Very confusing.
