Ponty's Claim to Fame

Pontypridd is a regional market town, situated 10 miles north of Cardiff, the capitol city of Wales. Located in the South Wales Valleys, an area famous for its deep coal mines of a bygone era, Pontypridd is still a major transport hub and a bustling business center for outlying villages. The market is held twice weekly, when vendors set up booths in the town's main streets, and shoppers take the bus, train, or drive from miles away.

Home of Tom Jones & The Lostprophets

For such a small town, Pontypridd has been home to a number of famous stars. Tom Jones he held his first concert in the Ynysangharad Park on 28 May 2005 with tens of thousands of fans jamming the park for a evening performance. Interestingly, the Lostprophets followed suit in May 2007 and over 10,000 concert goers packed into the same park. You can see photographs of both concerts below.
